I got 0.96
I got 1 server that I see it in a red color, when I try to join the map loads but then I CTD (Crash to Desktop)

PS: I have entered the levels folder and the files in each map arent the same
e.g on kashan there are 4 winrars, but on road to kyongan'yi there is 1 winrar and one folder so is is this why I dont have maps when I want to start local???

Let me once again emphasize that if you are having problems starting the game especially with connecting to the server shortcut issues or anything similar that you COMPLETELY uninstall and remove the game, re-download the installer and run it again. Altogether that should take no more than 15 minutes. I have had a people come to me with installation issues and every single one of those people had a bad previous version of the installer that was posted 2 days ago as opposed to yesterday morning. The bad installer is also called "Combined Arms .96 Installer" So you may have the bad installer and not no. Easy remedy... delete and re download. Every single person who has had the right installer has installed successfully so let me emphasize once more...

If you are having any installation issues at all delete and uninstall all Combined Arms related things (including the installer) and re-download the installer from one of the links on the .96 thread.

(note the folder that contains Combined Arms is C:/Program Files/EA GAMES/Battlefield 2/mods/pr_ca)

First of all you have old files or have installed wrongly.

Second, desert rats has 4 zips because it is not in pr and contains map specific objects. Kyonggan ni has only one because that map is in of and we only need to include the changed files, the others are called up from the pr folder.

CanuckCommander wrote: Another thing I noticed though is that in most gun cam videos, the Apache only carries about 300rnd of ammunition, while its official max ammo capacity is 1200. I'm curious, maybe we should set the ammo count to 300 as well for the apache. I don't know the reason behind this, perhaps it is more practical to increase fuel carrying load and reduce weight than haul a bunch of ammo that you'll never use up. Or maybe it can't carry 1200 rounds after 8 hellfires and 38 hydras. Idk. Maybe a military adviser can answer this.
You are absolutely on the right track here.

The reason why they in most cases use reduced load in an environment like Afghanistan or Iraq is because of the tactical demand. The high temperatures / barometric altitudes the helicopters work, makes them able to carry less weight = mainly ammo and fuel.

However, because of the long trasition distances involved and requirement for long loiter times in the operating area, it is more sensible to carry more fuel than ammunition. Especially in missions where probability of an engement is low and/or targets are few.

Things change dramatically, when you are pitted in a situation which involves only short transition distance to the objective area and you expect very "target-rich" environment. In this scenario more emphasis is put to max out the weapon load even with the expense of more fuel.

So you see: what is tactically sensible to do because of the technical limitations in Afghanistan or Iraq - isn't necessarily the best course of action when you are pitted in a game-scenario such as "Kashan desert" map portrays.

Hopefully this clears the question 8) .

I trust you find this in order,

Makes sense. Remember the US and UK apaches vary quite a bit with their engines and such.

Though in the book Apache it is mentioned that the standard loadout for british apaches in afghanistan unless mission specific is 300 x 30mm, 24 x CRV7 (12 flechette and 12 heisap iirc) and 2x helffire.

I love Combined Arms, more than i love P.R., infact, each time i play i wounder why R-Dev do not add all that stuff. Yes Airplane can destroy any single thing, Yes thermal does DRAMATICLY help you find any target, but that is how they work in real life.

The nice thing is that its balanced though. With a competent enemy nothing is all dominant.

Most of why it all works is because of the 3km view distance. That way, the apaches can hover really high out of AA range, and the tanks can have long range engagements, and the jets have more view range.

I think my favorite part about what we've done so far is that while we've made aircraft as deadly as they realistically are in real life, we've made AA as effective and protective as it is in real life. It has an effective range of 1-2km or more and if you have a certain kind of AA, the machine guns will track the plane for you. If you have an attentive AA anywhere, I guarantee you you are not gonna be worrying about jets. You might have to worry about the javelins though ;) ...

Minus the infantry-sliding-like-they're-iceskating-when-they-walk thing.

This is true, but in combined arms it's so exaggerated that it feels like you're iceskating. When you stop when walking forward diagonally you continue to slide for another 2 meters. When I jog that doesn't seem to happen.

Jog with a few dozen kg on and you'll see what I mean. Its not just weight. Its fatigue, cumbersome weapons, and restrictive clothing. That said it might be a bit too much.

Well that and you don't have to worry about rolled ankles and tripping when you slam on the brakes.
