A question about maps

Post by UncleRob199 »

Sorry if this has A) been posted in the wrong section or B) been asked before:

I'm wondering why as new updates of project reality are released, some maps are taken out each time. I know they seem to be 'replaced' with other maps which I think are excellent and do appreciate, but I do miss some of the maps from 0.7, 0.6 and 0.5. Unfortunately I don't remember any of the names of them but I loved them! I remember there was one with hangars with inactive jets (back in 0.5 or thereabouts)

I can only think it's because of one of the following?

Keeping the maps would make the downloadable install file for the game too big.

There is a maximum number of maps the game can have available at one time, so old maps need to leave to make space for new ones.

The maps were taken out to be worked on as they were deemed to be in need of improvement (not my opinion)

The maps were considered not good enough or big enough

The maps are somehow not compatible with some of the changes made in recent versions.

Anyone know?

Some maps aren't of the PR level of quality that is in the latest version.

But their complete removal was a mistake I agree, a retro server open 24/7 with removed maps would be great.

Yeah I would suggest working on these maps to bring them up to the standard of the latest version, after all, it should be easier than making new maps from scratch. I'm not saying stop making new maps though, one of the most exciting things about updates is new maps. I just think it's a shame to remove such cool maps that people have put in time and affort to create.

Not really as the maps where small and they would need to make them bigger then you have to scale them up and your basicaly at scratch again ;)

I found this sentence quite funny and since this is a war game forum I will put it here. No offense to the french just a good laugh.

i agree...i miss alot of the old maps when i started playing PR. whether or not a map is "quality" should be up to the server admins and whether or not they want the map in the map list.

i really wouldnt mind dling a couple hundred megabytes for some of the old good maps

I'm currently making a map for PR (not gonna make a topic on it until I've got something worth showing), and trust me, its not easy. The work that would be put in to making those maps good would be equal in many cases to the work in making them again from scratch.

And Zatar Wetlands would be off limits to editing the actual terrain and statics afaik (ea..)
