How do you make being commander a bit less boring?
Whenever I become a commander when the round starts, I always tend to get bored easily staring at the commander screen, giving orders, accepting build orders. The only fun part of being commander is placing mortar strikes or placing artillery strikes. Most servers will ban me if I draw a doodle on the map with mines symbol because they would consider it spamming.
Anyone knows how to make being a commander a bit more fun? Or am I just missing something to do

Well, the comander role is not a very entusiastic task. The few times I played as commander, I used the xfire internet browser to access a few websites.
[R-DEV]OkitaMakoto:"Cheers, you're the man, Okita"
[R-DEV]Rhino:"I in fact got kicked from a server for tking."
Hitperson:"well done, treasure it forever."
[R-DEV]Adriaan:"Damned classy Roma, if I may say so."
[R-DEV]Chuc:"Pro man, pro." (yes, it was about me)
[R-MOD]BloodBane611:"Romagnolo, you definitely deserve a LOL award for that."

Its not possible but give him a squad of 3 members to go with him a command humvee and have em follow the troops around like godfather in Generation Kill

Oh, that's priceless. In PR this is not a good idea, but once playing ACE (armed assault 1 mod) I lived something similar xDGR34 wrote:Its not possible but give him a squad of 3 members to go with him a command humvee and have em follow the troops around like godfather in Generation Kill

Have the devs insert a Tetris tab and let fly.
But seriously...I know at times it can get a bit boring, especially if you have a team of no mics. Once some battles start heating up though, sometimes you want a break. This usually happens when you have all sorts of units up and running. Kashan is one that communication is key. Coordinates of tank/enemy armor. That's when you need to start confirming things with others and get them dispatched to take it out.
I wouldn't completely Alt+Tab out, could just get X-Fire and use the Web Browser overlay and watch some Youtube in your Ice Cream stand. Then you have an eye on map details and fun at the same time.

Look guys simple concept: If you are amusing yourself during a game then something has gone terribly wrong.I wouldn't completely Alt+Tab out, could just get X-Fire and use the Web Browser overlay and watch some Youtube in your Ice Cream stand. All I need is squads following orders, providing intel and feedback and a map that allows the CO to develop a strategy.
If you have US squads responding on Muttrah/Qwai/Fools Road then commanding is always good. If the game is not fun enough then you are not working hard enough to get the most out of the team.

A little bit of common sense is needed here, i think he means amusing yourself with something else.NewShores wrote:Then what is the point of a game if it isn't for amusement?

How about bringing back the deployable Command Post?
It was pretty funny and challenging back in the days to select the place for it, have a few guys building it and start the commanding. Spec. Ops. had a role those days to disturb the communications by destroying the CP.
Now you are stuck in the box with not much to do. I might prefer the old system to the present.

More fire support, available more often and in several version (like mortars every 5mins and artillery every 10 or so), that is the way to go.

Yeah, that sounds like at least some of the way to do it. It really needs to be nerfed then however. (like you only get 1 mortar strike each time)Jedimushroom wrote:More fire support, available more often and in several version
But firesupport wont do it alone i think... maybe some sort of UAV/radar to spy on the enemy? Sort of like the zoom of VBF2, but heavely nerfed. Maybe u can see what the SL/Sniper sees with their GLTD? That would make it a bit more intertaining. (now all you see is blue dots on a map -.-)
My 2 cents

To answer your question:
A) Get SL's who talk to you
B) Don't think the whole teams is relying on you, too much pressure.

Drink, listen to tunes, pick your nose...
Or allow him to do things outside the CP... a commander of 31 men wouldn't be deskbound!

I think the Commander should have access to more smaller strikes. The mobile command center also sounds like fun. In vBF2 I always had a squad of 2 or 3 running after the commander and keeping him occupied so he could not focus on the rest of the team.
Being commander right now is like playing Left 4 Dead, its best done with a group of friends or people you know...otherwise its just a pain

in stead of a mortar and arty give them an air burst round ever 5 min that is like 10 frag grenades with longer range. As well as artillery ever 10 or so

Re: How do you make being commander a bit less boring?
i realy think that would be good to have more area attacks more often maybe also more than one type on each map like i'm sure they would be able to have morotrs in juts about place in the world and also artillery can be nearly anywhere air strikes are also nearly everywhere these days

He should be allowed to be with his team, instead of rotting in the back.
