Playing PR with speakers instead of headphones

Post by charliegrs »

Ive been playing PR since .4 and always played it with headphones {didnt want to disturb roommates and family etc} but today for the first time I played it using my speakers instead. the speakers I have are nothing special just a Creative 2.1 system with a nice sized subwoofer, but WOW it makes the game so much more intense. I had it turned up nice and loud, and the sub on full blast and all the explosions and machine gun fire really reverberate and get your heart pounding. I could still use my mic effectively, i just looped the headphones around my neck so the mic was pointed at my mouth. I definitley recommend trying PR with the speakers {especially if you have a nice 5.1 or 7.1 system} if youve never done it before.

I have a very nice sound system in on my comp. On one night, I was playing PR. I IEDs on the road, and was waiting for an APC or something to come by. A friend came over to drop off some **** at my house. I go out side, standing next to the road. I can hear from my room the sound of the MBT coming down the road, BOOM he fires. We can hear it clear out side. My friend says "What the hell was that??" I say "Dude, brb I gotta blow something up!" *Rushes back inside*

It's nice for you, not nice for the guy in your squad who has to listen to the gameplay sounds leaking into your mic and making it even harder to hear you :P

I did this as well recently, and yes it is epic. Only thing you have to worry about is your teammates getting feedback from your mic.

"I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end... "

i understand that. however, everytime ive heard the battlesounds from one of my squadmates, it always sounded like real combat radio transmissions to me so i always like it. but i can understand why some people dont.

I try my best to keep chat super short when I'm using speakers. Because I know my feedback melts hearing.

Yeah the feel of a sub and separate speakers definitely enhances the experience. I've got a Logitech Z-5500 system which is great as far as I can sense, I just tend to play PR late at night when I usually can't use it.

I'm pretty happy with my Sennheiser PC350 headset though, despite the lack of feeling it still sounds awesome and provides situational awareness.

With the X-Fi I can really hear where someone's flanking me from and have a lot of early warning when an enemy vehicle is coming.

I can't use my x-Fi card for PR any more...BF2 just crashes every time I have it enabled. It's a real bummer. My on board sound is really good though.

You only have to worry about feedback (or game sounds) if you don't use push to talk really...
And when you're in a heavy fight and some guy starts talking, yes, you hear the gunfire and explosions a bit, but to me that just adds to the realism. Hehe, imagine someone is in the middle of a major firefight, shitload of explosions.. then starts talking and you only hear a voice, nothing else -> meh ;) .

problem is that IRL people would speak to eachother if near enough, not use a radio with all the associated sounds :D

I tried it once but I guess it didn't work real smooth ... my Squadmembers we're screaming at me so I knew enough. But yes, I agree the sound is better on speakers.

Hmm, I have had some BF2 crashing since I got one of the new 'titanium' ones.

What OS are you running?

I'm using Windows 7 beta drivers.

Also seem to be stuck in game mode a lot, overall the drivers/software seem pretty dodgy.

But even then, dear Rudd, even then you'd have the sounds of war :D

Vista 32, any time I have the card so much an enabled PR/BF2 crashes the second i try to join a server. I'm running the Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatal1ty Pro Series 70SB046A00000 - Get the fastest performance and the most intense, realistic audio in your games

Agree if you're used to headphones, playing on speakers is awesome. Try putting down 10 IEDs and turn up the volume.

Same here :) I play with headphones all the time to not scare my girlfriend :P (negative side of having only a room to live in) and to hear my comms good. But a few days ago she was away for a day and I decided, sure why not! Lets put it on speaker. And it was awesome! Its harder to hear your comms properly tho!

I like speakers too, but with my dad working in the same room half the time it's not really possible - he gets annoyed enough with me barking "Taking fire, two enemies, 150!" every 20 seconds! :D

I agree with the 'sounds of war' thing - I love it when I can hear gunfire and explosions over voip, it's so immersive! It did bug me how your voice was totally isolated from what was happening around you...

Yeah, with the sound through the speakers and subwoofer it feels much more immersive! Only problem for me though is that i´ve got 5.1 surround, but the back 2 speakers aren´t working in Bf2/PR, they do in most other games however.. :-?

I have a nice 5.1 speaker setup. It's really nice being able to tell the exact direction of incoming fire without being able to see them and the deep BOOOM as a JDAM lands on your head.

I always use speakers epically after that one time i nearly blew my ear off.

I was using my head phones once to watch a movie.... you know the one’s that has all the nice special effects and props like handcuffs and gag balls. and i forgot to turn it down the sound after wids. i log in game and i start playing a some time latter in the game some devious bastured lobbed a grenade at me and it exploded right next to my head i was deaf for 3 hours could not hear any thing but this very annoying ring in my ears.

My advice is don’t use headphones for this game there to may expositions and load noises
