[Weapon] SVD

Post by -kodiak- »

This is a message for the DEV(s) involved in recruiting. I have finished my trial task but I can't get a hold of my DEV contact via email. It's been a few days and he hasn't responded to me. I'm eager to send this off and have it critiqued.

I don't want to post to the public what my task was just in case it violates a dev's privacy policy or something or other. But if a DEV could PM me, that would be great.

UPDATE 1

Ok so here's some links to renders of the SVD i've done as my trial task. Comments and crits are totally welcome.

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l197/ ... unov_4.jpg
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l197/ ... unov_5.jpg

Plz note the contrast has been turned up to exaggerate the highlights and detail on some parts of the texture. It wont be this contrasted in game or it would look silly

UPDATE 2

Since talking with some DEVS and the community I found a few things that needed to be updated/changed. So for the last day and a half i've been pluggin away adding to the model and reworking polys to keep within the limits and here are some renders of the updated model.

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l197/ ... unov_6.jpg
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l197/ ... unov_7.jpg
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l197/ ... unov_8.jpg

Oh the model is 3540 tris and uses 4 textures
body
barrel
scope
buttstock

The way this model is textured it's able to have the scope removed and with some farting around in max it would be able to use an iron sight instead of the scope. An iron sight sniper rifle could come in handy during CQB.

Update:

I am ready to submit my SVD trail task to the DEVs

What was it you were trialing on? Statics, coding, texturing?

Try private messag'ing [R-Dev]Afterdune, as i think he's playing a big role with the R-Con staff at the moment.
If you can find the four ninjas in my post, pm me to find out the prize....

Welcome to the forums! :)

I'm not 100% sure if your work would violate any policy, but if you look here: PR Community Modding - Project Reality Forums

You can see plenty of people post their work for PR and the BF2 modding community, like models, maps and code. Just informing you for any future assets you may provide to the mod. :)

Oh well thank you for the warm welcome. In that case i guess it doesn't hurt to have the community crit my work. I'll post a link to my Dragunov render and you guys can let me know what you think :D

Hmm, I always thought it'd be in my power to make a few everyday statics like beds, TVs and couches for the mod. Would be handy on urban maps to vary things for cover and design purposes! :D

Of course, that would mean I have to learn all that complicated stuff about modeling, UVing, texturing and importing. Alas, for another day. :p
---
A true SVD from the hands of the community would be a nice and welcomed addition. :) The current SVD is a vanilla model, so that limits what the devs can do to it; what with the restriction from third parties modifying Dice's models.

Adding children models to Dice models is allowed from what I can see, but it'd probably be too messy on a weapon, compared to a vehicle like the revamped Blackhawks in PR.

Was the model also created by you? If so could you say how much polys it has got?
Looking great IMO.
