Punkbuster...good, but not good enough

Post by TF6049 »

PB is a great program for stopping cheaters, and has helped immensely to "de-cheat" many games.

But the problem comes when people are kicked for plainly stupid reasons. Granted, the bans are accurate, but why?

They are issued by a human.

Simply put, what I am putting forth is taking away the ability to take action against players not confirmed by a human to be cheating.

This would mean
-PBBans still works [These are issued by a human]
-PB Screenshots are still taken and reviewed by admins

However, it would also mean
-No more MD5 kicks, these would simply be admin alerts showing the supposedly edited and correct files side-by-side
-No more MD5 kicks for non-PR mods in PR
-Any other kicks that aren't 99% false positive are reviewed by admins

PROS: Reduce the number of inaccurate "dumb kicks" in PR immensely, make people happy consequently

CONS: Increase workload on admins slightly, might be some work for the DEV's

I believe you can already do this if you know what you're to change.
There's a setting somewhere that will basically put an line in the log on BF2CC to tell an admin that something needs looking at.

I never get PB kicked cuzz I have my internet and every set up correctly 99% of PB problems are client side like I have said before.

Also PB is extremely testy so never touch it or disable any of its programs ever, there is really no need to ever turn it off as it takes no resources. The only time I ever got PB problems was when I was constantly disabling it from running in the back round.

I sometimes get bogus kicks. Those are what the community doesn't want (EX MD5 kicks for non-PR mods)
