Ghilli suit solution

Post by flickflackingfligger »

instead of making a ghilli suit, would it be possible to make him look a little different? like Rudy Reyes from generation kill, he is the platoons sniper. give him a scarve and put a couple of camo cloth on his helmet and gear. but dont overdue it, here are some examples
Image
guy on the right
Image
guy on the left

in this vid, look at his helmet! not his gay naked body(but if u cant help yourself, u can:mrgreen :)
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/gFVfbPFADF4&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/gFVfbPFADF4&hl=de&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>[/youtube]

for ppl who believe there should be and for those who oppose the ghillie suit, this could be a sollution. so discus it!

*if this was suggested before, then nvm 8) and heres a link from the show, go check it out*

nice, but kit geomitries still dont render at long ranges making this suggestion, as useless as a gillie suit.

but in close range, for recon mission behind enamy lines, it DOES render, and honestly, for me, that what matters.

In close range I dont think a few branches/leaves on your helmet/jacket will make any difference. Besides in gen kill, the unit portrayed is a special unit(recon marines) and PR does not depict special units, only regulars, so the equipment and clothing has to be the same as regulars. And as far as I know(i could be wrong though, better ask a military advisor) regular "snipers" dont have ghillies.

yeah long range is problem ofcourse but for close range having a little different look for a sniper would be nice.

snipers allways carry a ghillisuit setup in their pack! and they adjust it to there operation zone, when they go in country

In PR at long range, cover is better than any ghillie suit, and at close range if your in grass it's hard enough to see people anyway, especially on jungle maps. I just don't see the point, if you move slow and keep your distance nobody should see you, and if they do you're obviously not doing your job of surveillance very well. That said a very subtle change would be ok to differentiate the sniper, but people shouldn't expect a super-camo.

I doubt platoon level snipers carry ghillie suits around, it's unwanted clutter.

i understand that the ghillie wont work and long range, but to have a different skin with extra details that a sniper would have in a desert urban warzone, or in the mountains of afghanistan.
would it be such a big deal to make?
i dont know, i have no clue of how to do that  i just play pr alot.
let the engineer have his hat and give a the sniper kit a distinguishing skin, that´ll ad hella realism.
and generation kill does give good info, cuz it is based om real action and most of the actors have rl military experiance. also, their production on set was very detailed which is a must for a hbo show (just like band of brothers).

Maybe, but as I stated before, gen kill portrays a special unit, not a regular one, so it is irrelevant how accurate the film is, since PR does not deal with special units.(Hence no automatic M4s, no spec ops, etc)
The sniper HAD a ghillie suit, it got removed, and it posiibly wont come back anytime soon(if it ever will).

Actually, i personally would enjoy the ghille if they matched it up to the colors in each level.

=) I like sneaking in the grass.... =*( far to often with any kit they see you too easily though..

Only place i've ever been able to sneak is Ghost Train, and even then they sometimes see you like nothing...

=/ i think it has to do with peoples video settings =(

What is a sniper doing in close range then? i find that not bieng a vallid argument, ofcourse you can walk into closeby enemies, but then its like 80% curtain that the sniper dies. So i'd like to repeat myself, what does this really add?

Imagine the following situation which, IMO, is a perfect example why we should have suits regardless if they dissapear after X meters in distance.

You're on a map with a lot of vegetation, let's say, Operation Ghost Train. Yes, using a sniper isn't the best of the ideas but still, people do find it fun and challenging. Before if somebody got close, you'd obviously get shot as it's not that hard to spot a british sniper(for example) on the grass somewhat nearby you.

Now if you had a ghuillie suit, you'd be more "protected", wouldn't you?
Which brings the idea to being valid, even if it dissapears, you can still adapt to use it. Imagine the following situation which, IMO, is a perfect example why we should have suits regardless if they dissapear after X meters in distance.

It's useful if somebody's searching for you, or somebody stumbles on you. On Seven Gates, when they took the suits out, I stumbled onto a British sniper near the British main, I walked right past him, but he fired at me with his pistol, so I of course shot him, so that was pretty good camo to begin with, actually.

ITS NOT ABOUT them being a special unit or having full auto M4´s WHICH THE DONT! they give good insight into USMC equipmend setup. what im saying is that a different skin that doesnt have a full ghillie suit, just some pits and pieces hanging of his helmet and/or back. like in the pics that i posted ealier. and have a different setup for each map situation(like a full one for jungle map and a pits & pieces one for urban desert situation, etc.) and nation.

YOUR post tells me u dont have clue what ur talking about and ur posting needles info......

Whoa buddy just back down a bit :)

That is what you said: there is this guy from gen kill who is a sniper, and he looks like this and maybe PR snipers should look like him also.

This is what I said: gen kill is about a special unit, PR is not, that is why they should not look like the guy from gen kill(thats why I brought up the automatic M4s, they were in PR if you remember, but they got taken out because it was not a standard issue in the regular USMC and US army).
So Im not talking about the ghillie being good/bad in combat situations, but Im talking about how accurate they would be for a regular sniper to have since Im not sure that they do...

And I dont know if you have read my second post but:

Im sorry but I cannot explain it better(please note that english is not my primary language).
