...yes i got 1.41 yes i did play 0.85 and i downloaded the patch 0.86 and after installation.. i run the 0.86 shortcut that defaults to my desktop and it gives me "pr.exe has stopped working" please help im running on vista 32 bit so i ran it on administrator and it didnt work i even tryed reinstalling everything!...please help!!! cmon!! so many ppl got this problem!! why is this happening...ive been waiting for 0.86 since u announced it!..so please help me!!!

I have the same problem. I installed the patch as the instructions told me to. Also the shortcut is the proper one and shows to the right exe.

The error message:

ive got the EXACT same thing happening with me, ive got all the correct paths for the shortcut but everytime i click on it it either loads the half screen thing saying PR 0.86 and but then loads up vBF2 so i quit out and it says pr.exe has stopped working or it just crashes back to desktop and says pr.exe has stopped working, i have tried deleteing bf2 and pr and reinstalling it all but it still doesnt work

Uninstalled the Net Framework and then Reinstalled that and the PR and still keep getting the same error message.

Is there a bigger bug in this patch or what can be wrong with this? A lot of people can't get it working

I have the same problem....i try to use the shortcut and it says it failed to start due to side by side configuration(whatever that means)and i didnt install the net framework cuz i got an error while trying to install it and everytime in tried to after that.

Hi peeps,

I had the same problem, Vista Business 32-bit.

I disabled advanced text servies and ran as admin, worked fine after that.

Hope this works.

well...i didnt try this but when i checked the FAQ for 0.86 it said that u need to intall net framework sp1 etc....i predict that it wasent installed during 0.86 installation and that u need to do it manually...i didnt try it, ill try it when ill get home... ...wots advanced text services? (edit)

I have the same exact problem. Not sure what happened, and I have installed the net framework. I'm running Vista 32 bit and have tried running as admin. Nothing is working

EDIT: All I did was put my bf2 CD in and run vanilla bf2. For some reason, my account was removed, so I just retrieved it, and started PR. It worked.

Seems that you need to start vanilla once for cache reasons i suppose.
After i once went to Vanilla server mysterious "PR.exe has stopped working" -crashing (when starting the game) stopped.
Vista 32, "BF2+Special forces" -edition of the game.

I've been getting a similar problem. pr.exe launches fine, but says i need patch 1.41 installed. I install it, and it still gives me the message. Any advice?

This error means that your BF2 installation is not where your registry key says it is installed (or your registry key is not named correctly ... it happens sometimes) . It might have happened because you changed the default install path ... or as many people seem to have done ... you have at one time cut and pasted your BF2 folder to another location (which is something you cannot do on a PC and get away with it in the long run).

In the next patch we fix this by putting a pr.exe registry key in on installation which can then be read by the pr.exe , rather than the pr.exe trying to read the BF2 registry key ... because it does indeed seem to be a common problem with people. However if you want to fix it now, uninstall BF2, clean the registry of all references to it and reboot then reinstall it selecting the default installation paths.

If you get a IO.DirectoryNotFound exception that means that you have cleanly installed BF2 and PR, but you have no profiles. You need to start vanilla BF2 first and then recover your profiles before you try to launch PR.

If people really really need help and cant do it themseleves we can remote into their machines and fix it for them.

And by the way , you should use the tech support thread for this kind of thing as I check it regularly to help people with their problems but don't look in here that often. There is loads of information in there about these problems and how to solve them. Search first before asking. And please .... save yourself some trouble ... dont go reformating , reinstalling .NET etc etc until the correct problem is diagnosed, as often its something very simple and you are putting yourselves through a lot of stress needlessly.

However sometimes you will need to do those things. If you are getting error messages to do with the pr.exe it means your .NET is functioning perfectly and you can breathe a sigh of relief as the solution will be a simple one. If the pr.exe just does nothing , or comes up with side by side application errors, then it means there is a problems with your .NET installation. This can be a bit more tricky to solve, but there is a lot of information on the web about how to do so (and in the tech support forums).
