Who uses English VO Only?

Post by NyteMyre »

Last night on a MEC team I heard over VOIP that someone was using English VO Only.
For those who don't know, it is possible to let every faction use USMC voices as a default language.

Because in PR, most of the text of the voice commands are not shown, I can understand why you would do that.... but on the other hand....why would you do that?
You can't distinguish MEC/CHINA voice commands from the US voice commands plus it looks silly

I've never done it, on vBF2 or in PR.

if you've clocked enough hours, you know perfectly well whats being said. ;)

-I'd think one reason would be to understand what people are saying(Medic, grenade, get in, etc.) with the comm rose.

Massive disadavantage to be honest, i can't count the number of times bushes speaking arabic have had a magazine poured in to them or a frag tossed their way.

Well, there are pros and contras for using it. New players might need it to better understand the commands, experienced players know them and will prefer to hear the difference between the armies. No reason for a change or anything here, imo.

well the problem is you won't learn what the non-english speaking factions say if you have english voices only on. you can only really learn if you use the normal voices and use all the voice commands repeatedly(for example on a local server). this would be the quickest way to learn them.

Especially the al kumbula ones when you're throwing a grenade. ;)
Judging from some movies, it refers to any kind of explosive, as someone in The Sum Of All Fears called the A-Bomb kumbula. Maybe some arabian speaking com member can tell us more.
Anyway, I think that especially the arabian voices greatly increase the atmosphere. Why would someone want to hear german voices instead? As IAJTHOMAS and LeChuck said, it's silly and disadvantageous.

"Kumbula" just mean "bomb" in arabic, thus any explosive, and the word does not start with a K but there is no cooresponding english letter so they use K as it is the most similar, also sometimes they say "kumbula yadaweia" in the game which means "hand bomb" refereing to a hand grenade, in reality arabs call a hand frag a "rum-mana" which means Pomegrenade (a type of fruit) due to the simillar shapes, just like how the americans used to reffer to their vietnam era grenades as lemons due to the simillarity in shape.

and actually, the modern word grenade is also derieved from the same fruit name, yes it is derieved from the name pomegrenade, see the sence in that, the reason for that is not only the shape of the pomegrenade, but the fragments of hand grenades reminded the soldiers of Pomegreat seeds.

any more questions in arabic, just ask.

I actually had this on before but decided that it stunk, because I was chinese and I heard some1 talking english so I shot him, and then I found out that he was som1 on my team. That option is not for me.

nieee!!! the best way to tell if an enemy is close by or if he died is the enemy calling a medic, lol
Guys, when a new player comes, just answer his question and go on your merry way, instead of going berserk! It's THAT simple! :D

I use english VO, I just don't want to feel like learning four different sets of phrases. It has been suggested before to get new phrases done in english with heavy Chinese/Middle Eastern/Russian accents.
