Not to be a sound nazi but monitors out perform cans hands down. Headphones are only good for canceling noise and thats when you fork out for a pro pair (Pro as in Sound Industry standard Beyer DT's etc) The only reason people use headphones for gaming is because it gets around the issue of the in-game sounds looping back through when using voice chat.

I also had to chuckle at
Don't tell DEVs to use youtube sounds because you think its the most realistic.
Cos' we all know the DEV's get their sounds from being there in the thick of it..

Sound familiar? :P

Can we close this thread now please? No one has anything else to add and it's going to end up heated.

LeadMagnet? Gaz? UK_Force? Zzez? Dunckhunt? Undies? All currently or recently-serving members of their nations' respective armed forces.

They might not have recorded sounds for Jaymz and Sofad to put in-game, but they can certainly give feedback on sounds based on their experience.

I'd trust their judgement over "I think this is how it sounds (never having heard the sound in reality myself) based on this video on Youtube", any day. :)

"That's how it starts, Mas, with that warm happy feeling inside. Pretty soon you're rocking in the corner, a full grown dog addict, wondering where your next St Bernand is coming from..." - IAJTHOMAS
"Did they say what he's angry about?" asked Annette Mitchell, 77, of the district, stranded after seeing a double feature of "Piranha 3D" and "The Last Exorcism." - Washington Post

That's not what I said. I am aware of those members of the DEV team who serve their countries. But I didn't say the DEV team were civi's masquerading as military experts, I was just jesting at a comment a fellow forum member made about not using Youtube for sound samples..
