Transparent textures on explosives.

Post by Copy_of_Blah »

This is for all mines, claymores, c4, all placeable explosives.

I'd like to see some different textures used since there is very little in the way for concealing them within the game.

Here's a current example:
2 black mines are above ground in the middle of a flat dirt road.

You can't do anything to hide it. It should be buried or covered up, so...

Here's the proposal:
2 mines with a slightly dirty glass look(flat not shiny; transparent) to them.

My suggestion is to simply retexture the models with partial transparency and with, perhaps, a desert motif. or just specs of dirt with the transparency set high.

It'd be partially noticable if you are close enough and looking, but a fast moving vehicle or a soldier running around should be blind to the concealement.

I like the idea of anti-tank mines being transparent or give it a bush or somethink on top of it so its easyer to hide them in dence undergrowth.

Claymore's are only used by America so PR might edit that so it would not be a good idea to camoflarge it.

This is the best idea i have heard in a long time, good one.

Also, Engineers will be limited hopefully so this will not be spammed.

I would really like to see this idea in game since right now anyone can see a mine from 50 yds away and drive around it rendering it useless.

What happens when you plant mines on concrete roads?

'[R-CON wrote:xW0LFx']makes sense but instead of transparent lets do a desert camo, that so the player isn't running around asking for money in the c4 postition and u can see it a bit with a watchful eye lol
I think a desert camo would be just fine with transparency. It's just that with a partial transparency you would be able to see it in someones hands, but on the ground it would blend with whatever it's laid on to. The range of transparency can be manuipulated. 100% transparency is too much I agree.

Oh and on the topic of mines. The model is wrong for the damage it does. From what I've read that mine is meant to blow tracks and that's about all the damage it does.

Here's the source. Oh, and if there is a change in the model to something like the M21, the same idea could be used but maybe leave the fuse part opaque.

Transparent might work but I think FH's system might work better. Instead of the mine totally setting 'on top' of the surface or pavement, the mines actually sit 2-3" inches below the ground level so the trigger pin is the only part sticking out when thrown on the ground. It's still visible to a careful driver, but much, much harder to see.

That sounds even better.

transparent mines would be unrealistic! but i know that the weapontextures can be changed per map! so if you have a desert map the skin for mines should be in desertcamo, if you play an urban map, the mines should have grey textures...

this should be the easiest and most effective way.

I've not got any problems with the current mines and their textures. If you're having a hard time killing anything with them, place them better. If every weapon was perfect at doing its job the game would get boring. Mines are one hit vehicle kills, but their weakness is that they're visible. Sounds fair to me.

I think that the mines should have appropriate camaflouge for each map and be buried partially under ground where there is soil.

Malik, that's what vBF2 is for!

I'm not suggesting that these be perfect. And they wouldn't be. They could be seen by someone who was looking out.

I'm with you though about 1-hit kills for the mines. Reread my second post.

I have no problem with their current power, perhaps they could be weakened to set tanks on fire and destroy all other vehicles so at least tank drivers can escape. Right now they're just total annihilation, but like I said, that's fine because they stick out like a sore thumb on roads. Just means you have to be more careful when you drive. :)

The best bit about mines is when you run upto a tank and put one direct in front and one directly behind. :D
