Cone of fire decrease.

Post by Qaiex »

I think it would be a good idea to decrease the cone of fire, while still keeping the settle time on small arms.

At the moment covering fire is pointless, everyone knows you're not going to hit any enemies unless you wait for deviation.
But if we decreased the cone of fire to at least fire the bullets in the direction of the enemy, that would make alot of difference.

You still wouldn't be able to shoot accurately at enemies without waiting, but you would at least hit somewhere near them, instead of the way it is now where you open fire and hit things and trees directly left and right of you.
I did notice some improvement in the new patch, which is why I'm biringing it up, hadn't really thought of it before.

In .86 you shoot more in the direction of your enemy, as opposed to .85 where you could basically put your barrel up against a wall and miss it unless you waited for the deviation to settle.
But I've still been in situations where when I stop, duck and fire at an enemy I still hit the ground 20 meters infront of me.

Maybe we could at least at 75 meters keep maximum deviation between shots around 5 meters apart.

I agree, i mean the deviation is supposed to represent things we cant really represent ingame such as breathing and your hands being a little unsteady.

But could a soldier really be as inaccurate as ingame after all the training they go through?
I mean the cone of fire can almost fill the scope it seems atm

Sadly all this would do is help run and gun and the devs really hate this that's why the insurgents weapons got a little nerfed as you could easily run and gun them and head shot from 300m with them.

what we really need is ballistics this would make it easier to shoot someone with in 40m and very hard even with a scope at 300m to a untrained player.

Well decreasing the cone of fire on the deployed LMG when proned is a bit needed or at least shortening the deviation time as atm its damn inaccurate even if standing still for a couple of secs (hell shooting in crouched instantly is more accurate then waiting 3 secs in proned position)

Or you could just fire and supress them like you do anyways or wait for the kill shot, I get headshots all the time.

I strongly disagree, jesus have you seen the new deviation? It's pretty damn good in it's current form with a little practice.

I have the abilty now to jump up from behind cover and headshot someone at 50m in a second or two of aiming. I did that 6 times in one life as an insurgent on fallujah so it's not the one-off chance.

Aside from this with scoped weaponry, the ak-74 is pretty, pretty badass. On albasrah I was beating down brits within 100m with the iron sights and a few seconds of careful aiming gave me headshots, let alone having iron sights which allow you to walk around corners "scoped up".

I only encounter problems when firing while moving, which is a little silly in its self. I actually managed to kill a mec rifleman at 50m+ with a SAW while walking past a doorway with zoomed undeployed mode though!

Deviaton is perfect in its current form, please don't change it.

This argument is still going on? Keep it as it is, I love the deviation system. 0.8 worked, 0.85 worked better. It's impossible to scale the BF2 engine to a real life size, it just wasn't designed for it. Bullets and weapons just can't behave like they could in real life with such a limited game. If there were real distances involved in-game, then very well. Fact is, there isn't. There never will be on the BF2 engine. Maybe in PR2 it can be done accurately but there is just too much limitation in place already.

Too many factors to bring into account, too few variables to code.

I'm not saying remove it. I have heard the ballistics system combined arms has displays some inherent problems in itself.
Deviation is a good system for this engine, and run and gun is out of the question.
I'm just saying tweak it a little.
