Gaming headset recommendations

I´m thinking of buying a new headset. The old one I´snt working well with my IMac and PR.
Need 2 buy one with usb connection.

Anyone that can give me some help in finding one thats good enough.

I use Skull Candy, but sadly I'm no headphone expert so I suggest you try them out at a store on a console they have there. Really, people are so afraid to try before they buy, but with all my shit I annoy the people until they let me try it all out, last time I got them to set up my surround sound on one of their big TV's and let me play COD 4 for a while to test if it was good.

You can say I'm a **** or whatever but they're paid to help, sometimes they look suprised when you ask but I've found if you just try things instead of worrying life is much better.

Test out possible brands at a local technology store, like a Swedish version of PC World, like 'VC Vurld' or something.

Since you are swedish, why don't you visit your local El Gigante? They have decent selection of stuff related to computers so you might be able to find a decent headset from there.

I use Steelsound's 5Hv2 and they are quite good for price / value, but they aren't usb headsets. The pricepoint would be good to know aswell

Well, I know where 2 go for headsets... the thing was (maby not clear enough) that I would like to know if there is any headsets that someone really could recommend for me. I have had so many that I not been satisfied with.

Elgiganten is not good btw.. mediamarkt is better.

The price is not a matter for the moment beeing... I value the quality first...

Creative Fatality headphones, £30, and sound pretty damn good to me, great bass on these bad boys, comfortable, great mic quality.

Not top of the range by any means, but I know quite a few people that use them, and for £30, they are a steal

I found a better one... Razer Barracuda HP-1 that seems nice.

If you can live with out the USB.

This this is what you must get.

Speedlink Medusa 5.1 Home Edition Headset - Ebuyer

Hook them up to a good sound card IE: "Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS" or and "x-Fi gamer" and above. And northing from the above posts will beat the sound you get from what I have listed.

I Have heard that the "Razer Barracuda" is good for a USB head set.

I recently went from a Sennheisser (Almost the exact same headset pictured above) to a Razer Carcharias. I highly recommend the Carcharias, it has an excellent mic and the headset is so comfortable. It also has a really nice braided cord.

After an hour or so my ears started to hurt wearing the Sennheisser, but I've never had any issues with the Carcharias.

Also, I might steer clear of the barracuda. My roommate had one and he always ended up losing the removable mic. It was also really small and quiet, it was kind of difficult understanding him when we played PR. And if your ears stick out a bit it might be uncomfortable, the speakers inside the headset are actually rather shallow and might press up against your ears.

All in all, if you can afford the Carcharias, buy it. You won't be sorry.

USB? Can't help you there. My plantronics headset connects into the audio and microphone jack in my computer.

BTW, I dunno what model number I have, but plantronics is a very good brand.

Ah, forgive me for not noticing you need USB. I'm sure you can find some adapters to convert the normal audio/mic jacks to USB.

If that's not an option, or just too much hassle, my biggest piece of advice to you is to get headphones that fit over your ears, not rest on them. That's the key.I also ignore the hype about "true 7.1" and multiple speakers within the headset, it really doesn't seem to make a difference.

As long as you spend $50+ you should be fine for audio quality, it just comes down to personal preference and comfort.

Well reason for the USB connection is that I play on an IMac and this computer has problems with mics not using USB. IMac has a allready mounted on top of screen and this works no good together with headsets connected with ordinary line in/out. After reading other forums I located and problemsolver.. I hope at least.. it was to connect with USB. I hope this will work.

I know wicca, lechuckle, som IGI dudes played with me but I don´t know if you have had hard time hearing me??

I am running thru an imic solution that works pretty fine, but I don´t think it´s "perfect".
Also my older headset is falling apart and need new one anyway. Maby an USB connection is better.. or maby even worse.. I have seen somebody writing that the game can´t recongnize the usb connected headset and sometimes must restart the game.

Someone with this problem?

7.1 yes maybe. I Get the feeling that there will be to much "Surround" sound and become cluttered. But 5.1 true like the "Speedlinks Medusa 5.1" I have. I Will take the "Pepsi challenge" on them any day of the week. And I guarantee I will win. There is no hype in my headphones. I Can hear what and where in an spit second. Also it has been a very long time since I was shanked. I Hear you long before you even get close.

Now this is just my opinion, and the last thing I want to do is insult someone's choice in headsets, but I think that 90% of gaming audio quality (i.e. the ability to perceive space and distance via sounds in-game) really just comes from your audio processor and not headsets. However, if your headset is bought for ~$10, it probably won't be able to properly represent the depth of sound that the sound card is throwing out, hence my previously mentioned ~$50+ recommendation for high audio quality headsets.

Also, this really is a double-edged sword. A buddy of mine recently updated his computer and got a sound card for the first time. He really noticed a massive difference in not only the quality of sounds but also his ability to play. But before, he was completely fine with a simple, 20 dollar headset that was very tinny and low quality. Once he finally had tested a higher quality system (system being defined as the combination soundcard/headset) he really noticed the difference. Maybe it was the card, maybe the headset.

In this comparison, maybe the Carcharias is the $20 headset and the Medusa is the clear and better audio choice, who knows. I haven't tried it, so I won't know until I will. That is what makes choosing headsets so difficult is because it really does come down to using them for a long time, with a familiar game to notice the difference, and comfort levels.

But in the end, PR is THE game to drop money on a higher quality gaming audio system, be it a card or headset. It makes all the difference in the world.
