I'm just curious can these 'fields' take any form? Such as small rocks and other elements from rough terrain?

As far as I understand, these elements can not be used as cover from the bullets, they are something you can shoot, walk or crawl thru. But visually having small rocks, fallen tree branches, or virtually anything you can find from the ground could be a element of stealth when you can blend in the environment.

These new fields seem to render rather nicely from long distance, I'm just imagining the picture where instead of fields we could see different looking terrain instead of plain, leveled texture under it.

Being 'hidden' is one of the hardest things to do with BF2 engine, I'm just seeing this as one option to solve this problem.

great idea.. some random underbrush and branches could make a good "field"...
for a forest..

the only limitation at the moment is the need for the area to be fairly flat.
not the most exciting forest but I can see where this might warrant some looking into..

we already have some largish rock groupings like this..

yes and no.

We have done "Overgrowth Rocks" in the past, but they where soo buggy etc they had to be (mostly) removed, as you could glitch into them etc. You can still find these overgrowth rocks on OGT and Kashan as we have not removed them from there yet. The other huge problem with them is that overgrowth can not be lightmapped, so they stick out like a saw thumb. Its much better to place rocks via statics, aint that hard to do.

Also the overgrowth fields are only fit to go over very "smooth" terrain, otherwise they glitch and dont work very well, so all in all only really good for fields.
