I dont like this idea its crucial to have a reference marker on the HUD, as you cant point at something and you dont have all those feelings and so on in PR as you have in your room, the range can problibly be taken out, its not hard to make a note with the ranges of each and every square for 1km 2km and 4km so you can find out real quick.

I found this sentence quite funny and since this is a war game forum I will put it here. No offense to the french just a good laugh.
"Going to war without France is like going deer hunting without an accordion. All you do is leave behind a lot of noisy baggage."

Sure you can point, just take your gun and aim in on the thing, and it'll be point at it.

Pointing IRL isn't that effective unless you are right next to someone and try to line up your eye with their arm, anyways. In reality, I find that it's communication that's key, not simply pointing.

What if we make a compromise. Keep the markers, for the the aforementioned reason that it substitutes pointing irl, but have them disappear after a while. That should help soothe you guys who don't want the magical target in the air, whilst still pleasing followers of the pointing-marking analogy. A point in real life doesn't stay forever, it just gives information for enough time for the involved individuals to store the information before it goes away. Thus the most realistic solution would be to have the markers visible only for a few seconds. If anyone didn't catch the marker or wasn't paying attention, then just as a real leader would do you can re-mark.

Pointing irl is highly effective imo. If someone points to a location while he's describing it i can see where his arm is and instinctively draw a line out from it and find the place together with his description. Are you saying this is some supernatural skill that only i posess? :o

And in-game, if McLuv were to say "Enemy directly in front of me by the tree" and i was standing beside him. I could just as easily look at where his gun is pointed and find the tree.

And we still have the compass at the bottom of the screen. I personally wouldn't mind turning that into a weapon also. And get rid of player names, ammo/health indicators, vehicle seat indicators, and generally anything that looks unrealistic. But, that's just me.

McLuv is correct, you can just point with ur gun....

I do it all the time with squadies outside of my squad, you just stand behind them to the right and look down their muzzle.....

Also attack markers are used by CAS as a subsitute for Lasing, lasing should be more important.

LOL, are you serious? ...following tracers is more practical :)

Anyway, back on topic:
IMO, complete removal of markers is not a good idea... but I could live without "range-meter" under the marker BTW ;)

Markers are good for the game play and situational awareness... and with all those new players in PR playing on any map could be even more confusing without markers.

Markers are very important for all those who are not familiar with the map, it gives a nice orientation point and general direction where to go.

Another thing.. Some of you may forget that not all of the worlds population speaks english in a communicative way... so you may describe where the target is via chat/voip and still get no reaction from other players who simply don't understand most words. Marker system gives a universal language of symbols which is why it is very useful in multinational squads... it's fast and self explanatory if used correctly.
