Tips for shooting down attack huey in 0.86?
I know Hawkeye is a really good pilot but yesterday on op. Barracuda it was really a nightmare.
We had 1 man-portable aa misile, stationary aa by the firebase, 50 cal mounted on an FAV and one guy with light machine gun. The aa defence can't get much better than this on the map and instead of going around, the chopper attacked our position many times and even though it took some hits from the missiles and mgs, it was only damaged at worst.
Does the attack huey have some extra hp or armor when compared to the normal version? I'd welcome any tips that could help to prevent this unfortunate situation, especially when it comes to the handling of guided missiles, who failed miserably (even when fired right after lock). After all, the chopper wasn't shot down for the whole round and got about 39 kills, not counting the assets.

When the stationary AA went down, did you re-locate it? Did you re-locate the FAV .50 call? Those are tricks to misguide the pilots. Chances are, the americans had a spotting squad/unit that improves the airstrike by a lot! sometimes it can be very hard to take down a good CAS chopper. Those are some tips. I really like the relocating. Takes a bit longer than just built up, but I used it once, and it worked wonders (on barracuda)
The CAS huey's came in for round 2, firing at the previous AA position on the hill, while I deployed it east of that hill. Nice targets when they where out of missiles and flew back to the carrier
Normally you would have been dead, cause they strike the AA battery, but now it was somewhere else.

Sometimes just requesting a HAT or LAT does the job, as i often see them just hovering over the water looking for something to attack.

Ok, thanks for the tips. We did relocate manpads and lmg (even the sationary AA but just once as it was so ineffective). The FAV with .50 (pretty much the only useful weapon) got destroyed after the first few airstrikes.
I guess we'll have to go for the AT weapons next time, even if it's a really desperate tactics to prefer them over guided missiles.

I had that kind of experience too.
I was drived the supply truck back and change to a FAV to help anti-air ability for rapid reaction . But no matter how i aim and shoot the huey windshield where the pilot sitting right behind it . It's still can't make the huey stop moveing even turn and move away the original course .
Does the .50cal or any other bullets have any effect on chopper?

I did give it another shot today when I saw Hawkeye was on Barracuda. We relocated the stationary AA but just once (didn't help), relocated portable AA after each shot but with no luck. I did even try the 4 barreled gun in the middle of the island but got killed 3 seconds after the 1st shot. Then we started to constantly relocate one light MG and two FAVs with .50 but even the combined firepower of these weapons wasn't enough to down the attack Huey just once.
The best we could do is never to fire the weapons when the chopper was approaching (it's kind of tempting as it's basically a stationary target but it always leads to the netherworld) because he could see the smoke or tracers coming his way. So far the only success was that the pilot got more careful and didn't score as many kills, probably trying to find our constantly relocating vehicles. When I observed the flight path, it became obvious to me that any hit with an AT weapon would be extremely lucky, even if the chopper was in a vulnerable position while ascending over the island to make another strafe.
Something seems to be wrong about the AA missiles. Or are the flares this effective in real life?

Yea I was talking about the AA that you have to built. Relocate that as well. Can help sometimes. Shame it didnt work for you know.
Looks like you where pulling every trick. Firing after his air-strike is a good move as well. Some pilots are also dumb enough to use the same direction everytime so that helps as well. I havent manned an AA yet in the newest patch so I cant tell u if they feel different.

My guess is that he had someone scoping the place and putting attack markers down, if he was hitting you that effectively.

Just go find the PKM Easter Egg and that will tear it to shreds. When crouch deployed, you will have many more angles to hit the chopper from.

yes hats work well. the unsuspecting gunship flys over me and stops 500m to the south I fire my hat, I thought I missed but he banked to the left and the rocket hit his tail!

Re: Tips for shooting down attack huey in 0.86?
Well i was on the server and Map Claymore describes and i was the "1 man-portable aa missile".......
I hit Hawkeye four times and my missile exploded directly in front / next to his chopper (once i missed). The only thing he did was deploying the Flares (around the time my missile exploded next to him) and then fly off to the carrier and get some repairs. Once he even did not go back he just ignored that "hit???" and striked the Stationary AA position again (luckily he did not find me)
Well i understand if i won't hit once
Twice ok...
but 4 times... holy **** that was annoying.... i always had lock on him without any flares around - shoot - boom/flares - nothing happens...
And yes. When he approached us he was flaring the whole time. totally fine with me. but i waited until his strafe was finished and aimed at him when he was turning around but i still never hit or if i hit him the 1man AA is just not doing enough damage.

Re: Tips for shooting down attack huey in 0.86?
I used to score from 11 to 20 kills a game as a combat engineer and AA pad on choppers alone. Now the kill rate has really decreased. AAs miss all the time, even if I fire as soon as target locks, which used to work for 0.85. Is there a window of opportunity now like the distance must be more than 200 but less than 600 in order for a clean strike?
I tried evading AAs as a pilot, and it seems to be easier now, or maybe its my skills increasing.
Oddly enough, recently I was playing with this R-dev guy, and he took down 4 choppers in a row and asked me what was I talking about...
So what's the trick to firing AAs? I'm really tired of missing.
