GTX 260 wont let me log into my PC

Post by ralfidude »

I just got my gtx 260 and i put it into my PC, replacing my 9800GTX. Iv done this many times, so i know how to do it.

The PC started up, and everything is going in normally. Then, on my log in screen, it is our of resolution, and the mouse and keyboard are not responding, so i cant click anywhere to log in.

When i restarted the PC, i went into my settings before the log in screen by hitting del key, i have a ASUS motherboard. So the keyboard works. Its just the log in screen thats screwing up. Is it the graphics card that did something to my PC? I need help, i have no idea why this is happening...

Also, how do you remove the log in screen? I googled it, and i removed that Network account, and have just my account and i have guest account thats been turned off, but the log in screen is still there.

I got it fixed, not sure what i did, but i took out the card and put it back in making sure all other cables runnign to the mother board are not loose. Guess it was something stupid.

I am still having a problem figuring out how to disable my XP log in screen. Its a pain in the butt cuz i have no accounts other than the main account on... why its still there is a mystery to me....

I'm not sure you can disable it from SP2 onwards, without a LOT of work. But I could be wrong!

Yes, I think it is a lot of work for XP.

Glad you have solved your original problem though :)

Noooo well YES actually, i have a 8800GTX OC (Basically the same as 9800GTX but without some thermo intelligence chip) that I was just about to upgrade to a 260 (216) but I guess I shall save the money...

Yeah, i mean i see some SLIGHT improvement, but in the most part... im not sure....

They made it seem with their tests, that the FPS increases by twice the amount the 9800GTX had... and well, its seriously not even close to that. You should wait and see what happens within the next few months.

You are better off looking at a 192 216 as the clock better and are no where near as hot, my 260 is clocked to 280 spec near enough....

Just download the new drivers here:

Use the dropdown menu's to select which card and operating system you have. the new drivers come PhysX

I manually went to update them by right clicking on computer and going to manage, etc, and it didnt find anything better.

So in that case its already on the card and i dont have to do anything right?

Since you mentioned it the GTX260 only beats the 9800gtx by 500 3dmark06 points... If I were you I would just get your money back and save up.

Ya to be completley honest my gtx 260 runs this game all high 1920x1200 and i have nvidia doing AA controll at 16x which is twice what BF2 software does and still i never ever ever drop below 60fps EVER.

You should gain Massive FPS going from 9800gtx to gtx260 even in crysis I gained 13fps which is a huge increase for that game, In other games like company of heroes or cod4 ive gained 25+ frames.

I have seen a bit better performace now that i went ahead and looked at some other games.

It was ARMA2 that had me the most worried, and its still not the best quality but a bit better.

My CPU is a quad core running at 3, so im fine with that.
