Decrease the M4 carbine accuracy.
Just like the AKS74U have lower accuracy because of its characteristics, just like in real life, M4 carbine should have lower accuracy compare to M16 or other full size assault rifle.
I have no way to tell if M4 in this game has lower accuracy than M16 other than shooting it. And I felt that M4 and M16 has same accuracy in this game.
If you know how to look through the files, please help me out by posting the note thing where all the gun performance is coded.
Please post your thoughts.
Debates on whether M4 has less accuracy than M16 / other full size assault rifle is welcome.
My thinking is, if it has shorter barrel it lacks everything. Shorter barrel means less speed, which means less energy, which means less accuracy and stopping power at longer range.

Re: Decrease the M4 carbine accuracy.
They gave the M4 same properties as the M16A4, because otherwise people would have to change tactics as far as playing as US Army goes

Re: Decrease the M4 carbine accuracy.
Most firefights in game are much less than 200 meters, at which range the short carbine doesnt make much difference.Human_001 wrote: Please post your thoughts.

If you could code in much longer view distances (see kashan) then it should be at a big disadvantage.

Also - AKS-74U is not a carbine.

Re: Decrease the M4 carbine accuracy.
well that depends on your definition, i terms of us carabine definiton it is, while i am aware of the fact that in russia it is called a smg, just like the german hk53 is promoted as a smg by H&K

NO!
The only difference between the M4 and the M16A4 is that the barrel is shorter, which in this turn gives the M4 slightly less muzzle velocity, not much but a little.

Re: Decrease the M4 carbine accuracy.
And lower accuracy. And the lower muzzle velocity means the bullets have less kinetic energy and thus do less damage. But Human 001 already said all that.
I agree. Would add a whole new level of assymetric balance to the game.
And I've alway's thought a carbine was a gun with a barrel shorter than a full-length rifle but still firing a rifle cartridge. So the AKS-74U is a carbine, the M4 is, the HK53 is.

Carbines are just shorter versions of any existing rifle.

Re: Decrease the M4 carbine accuracy.
Barrel length does not determine accuracy.
Sight length affects accuracy if you're using iron sights.
Barrel rigidity affects accuracy -- which might be an issue, except that M4 barrels are profiled to maintain a high level of rigidity without being too heavy.
Barrel length does affect the muzzle velocity of a weapon -- but this does not directly correlate into loss of accuracy.
Anywho.

Re: Decrease the M4 carbine accuracy.
because of the lower muzzle velocity of the M4 carbine, compared to a M16, the M4 should do slightly less damage than the M16. But since the M4 has a shorter barrel, it is more easy to wield and so should be easier to "sight-in," like a mayve a second or two shorter. its realistic imho

Re: Decrease the M4 carbine accuracy.
Just to make sure I am not suggesting to make M4 carbine innacurate like nothing else just to give different game style. That is absolutely not realistic.
What Im asking for is to make that little difference in accuracy and damage. Whatever the difference there is between these two guns in real life, and simulate it as much as possible.
------------------------------------------------
Also, Just like the difference between M4 and M16 barrel length, there is same kind of difference between AK47 and RPK. (The RPK is the SAW version of AKM. AKM the model of 1959 is improved version of AK47 that everyone uses today and no one uses THE "AK47" model of 1947, but somehow that is not the case in this game) So RPK should have slightly better accuracy and energy.

Except it does, because there's more bullet drop and the bullet comes out of supersonic speed sooner, becoming unstable and being affected by everything.[R-CON]ReadMenace wrote:

Re: Decrease the M4 carbine accuracy.
The m4 may have a 12" barrel instead of the 16" barrel of the M16, but it has no less accuracy than its counterpart.
M16
Max Range 3600m
Max Effective Range 800m
M4
Max Range 3600m
Max Effective Range 500m
if you can hit a target in this game beyond 500m, your a really good shot or cheating.

The M4 has a 14.5" barrel while the M16 possesses a 20" barrel.Sparatan117 wrote:The m4 may have a 12" barrel instead of the 16" barrel of the M16, but it has no less accuracy than its counterpart.

No, it doesn't. Yes, a slower bullet is subject to the effects of wind & gravity for a longer period of time -- but the last time I checked a weapon's accuracy is not judged by it's cartridge's ability to compensate for these things.Jonathan_Archer_nx01 wrote:Except it does, because there's more bullet drop and the bullet comes out of supersonic speed sooner, becoming unstable and being affected by everything.
An Anschutz .22lr competition rifle can be a sub-MOA rifle, but gosh, once the wind picks up, or you get beyond 100 meters, everything goes out the window.
