Problems with textures on HD4890

Post by alphafour »

Hey guys My system is as follows -

Windows XP Pro 64-bit
Intel Core 2 Q6600 @ stock 2.4GHz
Seagate 320GB HDD
XFX HD 4890 1024MB
Kingston HyperX 4GB PC2-6400 DDR2 RAM
OCZ 550 W PSU

Now when i play the game everything is fine except for 3 things -

I set everything to high [except for AA which is set to off] (because with a system like mine you don't expect to need to tone everything done) but when I load up the game

1] - The shadows are very boxy and square edged and dont really look like they're on high setting.
2] all the textures except for the buildings are low quality although I've set them to high
3] I get black artifacts/tearing on the screen on the terrain and on some of the vehicles

So yeh all my drivers are upto date etc. I'll send a dxdiag if needed..

Anybody having the same problem?

suggest that you delete cache and let it re optimize. first check what your setting are set to in your profile.con.

the 48xx series is renowned for having bad textures with BF2, boxy shadows etc, Rudd had the same problems iirc, not sure if he had resolved them

You know with my gtx 260 I use full 16x AA so you definitely could turn the AA way up!

I am currently using a 8800GT Sli setup but prior to that I was using a single HD4850 and I can concur that the 48xx series has problems with shadows and AA with BF2. I definitely suggest a Nvidia card for BF2.

The 4890 is a great card but ATI drivers are always lacking imo.

Goto

c:/ Documents and settings / Map with your name/my documents/battlefield2/mods/bf2/cache/ and delete the file whats in there.

When you start PR it is forced to optimize you shaders.

hope this helps

If you are putting your Nvidia card back in just to play PR then what about drivers?

Are you uninstalling the ATi ones everytime you want to plaY?!
