Severe PR problems (going to damage hardware because of PR)

Post by pwn3rer »

Installed BF2, followed by PR 0.86 today (that's 0.85, then patched). I reformatted Vista about two weeks ago.

First of all, I click on the icon to start PR, and I get an error, something to do with flares, or fireworks or something (I don't have time to see what it is). Then, the screen goes black, so I alt+f4, because I know something isn't right, and then windows buggers up.

All power is cut to the USB, then to every other piece of hardware, and then, this is the bad part, the mobo buzzer starts buzzing, full pelt, loud as, non stop. I end this dilemma with a click at the wall.

PR did this, and I am seriously annoyed. Restarted the PC, tryed again, same thing happens.

Please address this issue or you are going to find yourself in a lot of trouble if many others have this problem. This could have damaged hardware, I just don't know.

btw, I set it to WinXP SP2 compatibility, run as admin, no UAC anyway, and I am on 32bit.

This could be caused by YOUR hardware which is already broken.....

Or by wrong drivers which YOU installed yourself.

A Game can't break hardware which is not broken already (And if a game causes hardware to break/Overheat the hardware had a problem already!!!)

You could have:

PSU Problem. (Not enough power left when a Game which needs alot of power (high vga+cpu load = high power consumption) and the PSU can't handle it)
Ram Problem
Mainboard Problem (Or mainboard drivers)
Driver problem (VGA, Sound, mobo, other hardware)
CPU (pretty rare but yes even a CPU can have a Problem which only shows up when certain games/software is used)

As you got that Mainboard Buzzer going it could be as well a CPU overheat Chipset(mobo) overheat or as mentioned before problems with your Mainboard/Drivers which fuck up if certain games put them on load.

How you can try to fix it:

First make sure you got the latest drivers for every Hardware bit in your machine (Even the Networkcard)

Make sure you got all reccomended service-packs installed
Make sure the .Net Framework was installed corectly (Reinstall PR to get it installed again)

Hardware:
Try to unplug and plug in your RAM.
Try to use only 1 Ram-bar if you got several installed. (Or completely change them if you got some others available)
If available connect a different PSU to check if that is causing the Problem
Also you can try to exchange (if available) the VGA

How? Would you like us to send you a new computer?

Seriously - the problem is yours. There are hundreds of people enjoying PR right now, who's PCs haven't blown to smithereens.

As AppLeNaToR suggests, first check for overheating - especially since the weather's so damn hot!

Although the OPs attitude is a little off, we can see that he is frustrated, so lets resolve instead of this.

Ok first off, can you please post your full specs and also the actual error that is given, if you cant be bothered to find it or remember it then your not going to find much help here in all fairness mate, but, this is what we are here for.

As you are the first person who has reported this then id say its more client side than PRs fault, but we may be able to sort the problem with your hardware.

Before people start speculating, can the OP first post his full specs and errors encountered.

Thanks

Ok first off I would ask you all to be Civil with me... I acknowledge this is my issue.

My specs should be fine, ran PR last month no trouble at all. I fear it may be because I have not run BF2 before installing PR maybe??

Anyway, my specs:

E6750 (2x.2.66GHz)
2gb DDR2
8600GT
Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 (<<could this be an issue (SP2)).

The SP2 was not on Windows update, I downloaded a pre release, and so I would imagine few (if any) of PR players would have this, and this really is the only difference from 1 month ago.

I will start it once more, try to get a shot of the error, that should help.

Thanks for replies.

oh, and yes, BF2 does work (just tried it)

BINGO:

Sorry for photo (cant SS). And, also, somehow I got FX to mean fireworks... sorry about that confusion.

I'd be concerned - at least initially - in what's causing the mobo alarm.

Are you sure all your fans are working, and that nothing's exceeding a temperature threshold? It's damned hot this week - I've had to take extra steps to keep my system within limits. Alternatively, perhaps you've set a threshold too low?

I'd look at that issue first, since it seems to be your main cause of concern from your original post. Running PR is of secondary importance to ensuring your PC isn't going to keel over.

Edit: Ninja'd by you :p - but the mobo alarm is definitely worth investigating.
Oh - and if it's any consolation, I rebuilt my PC yesterday ... and forgot to patch BF2
