now i have a HP Pavilion a1240n with 1 gig already installed, i just got 2 sticks of memory(2 gig each) and once i have one of them in in any memory slot, turn the computer on and nothing goes to the monitor, when i take it out, it works fine

i read it its pc2-5300 and its compatible with my computer, anone know how to get this to work

computer specs

intel pentium 4 processor
1.0 GB memory(512 each)
200GB hard drive
nvidia 6200 video card

Check your laptops specks for your Primary (A) slots and make sure the large (2GIG) chips are in them. I believe if you have slower ram in the other slots(B) It may degrade the faster ram to run at the slower speed of the older ram or cause boot problems.
So remove old ram and install new ram to primary slots and reboot.
If everything is good shut down and reinstall the old ram only if it is the same speed or you don't care if the new ram runs a little slower. Your probably better off selling the old ram or trading it in for new+ a few $$
