If its something in the background stealing all your resources, try this application-

Game Booster | Better Play Experience | Game Accelerator

It closes all unnecessary applications when you want to play and starts them back up again once you finish. I like it quite a lot.

Laptop?
I'm going to guess you have overheating issues with your video card. Check out Computer Geeks for a cheep laptop cooler or go down to your local Liquor store and buy a block of dry ice to put under your laptop. If your FPS don't drop when playing with the block cooling your laptop, then get a cooler it will help

Good luck.

PS I often cut a wine cork into 4 pieces to put under my laptop. The extra space helps cooling.

Another bottlenack might be your HDD. Please post all specification you can find of it here.

But I agree that it most likely is a cooling issue.

"Start" -> "Control Panel" -> "Device Manager" -> "Disk drives" -> select your disk drive -> right click on it -> "Properties" -> Tab "Details" -> from the drop-down list "Friendly name" -> right click on the name -> "Copy".

Then paste it here.

Alright mate just relax. This is not a computer service hotline. ;)

We will try to help you as good and quick as possible but sometimes it just takes some time.

EDIT: A little bit more information is required. Do you have a Amilo xa2529? Tell me your Laptop type please.

EDIT 2: Did a little bit of research on that and found something. If you have a Amilo XA2529 then overheating is your problem for sure. Once the CPU temperature reaches 85° C your CPU is getting clocked down to 800 MHz. Now there is a solution for that but I can't guarantee for anything. Lower the voltage on your CPU and clock it to around 1600 to max. 2000 MHz using RM CPU Clock.
You should also try to get a fanpad for notebooks. It doesn't have to be a specific one.
