PR .86 install error

when i go to install i get "the setup files are corrupted. Please obtain a new copy of the program."

first thought was a bad DL, i re dled from file planet link in download section, same thing, i try the torrent get the same error, i try the brit server DL get the same thing.

i have just done a upgrade from XP to Windows 7 with a reformatted HD and no previous versions of PR installed since upgrade to 7. i have searched and searched tried all the fixes i could find. dont know what else to do. i tried to DL .856 and just patch up but there is no seeders on that one any more. i have turned off UAC. run as Admin, tried compatibility with XP sp 2 and 3, Vista sp 1 and 2

any help or thoughts would be much appreciated thank you

so i got it working i happened to look at the size of the file that was sitting in my drive and noticed that it was missing a good chunk of data interesting that i have dled it from multiple locations used the torrent to patch in teh missing data and now its all installed

Well I kept getting game lag and major multi-colored screen textures and glitching... so i decided to uninstall all of PR and go with the v.86 CORE and LEVEL full downloads... the core installed fine... But the level installation keeps giving me that same error... I've tried once to ignore the errors and just try to install it and PB kicks me after 2 minutes on any server, but only with 4 maps, that it wasn't able to get the "client" or "server" for it.

here is the list of maps, i couldn't get the client for:

7Gates
Battle for Qinling
Jabal
Karbala

I would start fresh and reload bf2 the 1.41 patch and pr all over again but i am unable to... my computer runs without a CD or DVD-rom device and my connection isn't good enough to try and get back-ups. so i need a fix to the level client errors.

If I could get the actual client files themselves i think that would be a temporary fix right?

I have trouble shooted everything... tried different downloads from different sites for the v.86 level... all that garbage.

I am Running Windows Xp Home With up to date service pack... i got the frame network installed perfectly fine so i know for sure its not that.

Exact same problem here, friend. A fresh BF2 install will not help you here. I did it and the levels part of the patch still errors in exactly the way you posted. Any advice on this, anyone?

I would believe that the "Levels" download has holes in the client levels.... its the extractors fault. It doesn't make sense to be anything else...

a simple TEMPORARY fix would be... to get those 5 files from a friends bf2/pr directory... "in theory". I will try it, if it works... I will post it!!!

CONFIRMED*** if you can get copies of the files listed above and drop them into your pr levels folder... it fixes the problem... just install the pr levels v.86 and ignore the problems.. finish the install then obtain the level files... they are about 40 megs each so i can't post them here...


This is temporary fix... and its seems to work 100%... hope i helped someone with this.


also this issue seems to only be if you get the core and levels of v.86 not by the patch. if you can get a hold of someone that has the patch and runs fine get the files from them.

I have tried it both ways...installing .85 and then patching it, and just installing from the .86 core and levels (My connection is not that great so one must respect how LONG this process took me). Both methods yield a CTD on map load, every time. Patching from .85 to .86 did not show the same errors as the levels patch did, but still the same results. I even did an entire system restore, wiped both of my HD's clean and reinstalled everything according to the manuals on this forum, and still the same problem. Honestly, I give up. I love PR but it is not worth all this effort and stress. I need answers....

Ummm I downloaded the levels patch 3 different times, from I think Mod DB, Gaming SA, and Battlefield Basis, as well as using the PR downloader.

Ah, so you have used the torrent link then? As it sounds as though you are getting a corrupt levels installer everytime by downloading from HTTP links :S

Make sure if you download the levels installer from the Torrent as a pose to anywhere else, then completely reinstall bf2 and PR again.

I know its a bugger but make sure you use the torrent

Go here and click on the torrent levels link[ First one on teh levels list]

You will need a torrent application such as uTorrent and then once uTorrent is installed you can use it to download the levels part of the install.

Its ok mate, it is because by your own admission your connection isnt to hot, so things can get lost very easily

the fix would be to get the client levels... if the moderators made a link to download all the client and server zips then you could definately fix this temporary.
