Could a multi-staged map be possible?
I've been thinking about this idea all morning and I'm wondering what everybody thinks and more importantly if it is possible.
Could their be a map which takes place in stages and the stages effect gameplay?
For example, the first stage is where a team 1 assaults a armor supply warehouse. Team 2 defends the warehouse. If Team 1 succeeds then Team 2 has limited armor during the next stage. If Team 2 succeeds they have more armor and an advantage over team one.
Second stage Team 1 has to secure airfield Team 2 defends. Armor depends on the results of Stage 1. If Team 1 Succeeds they gain air and a FB at airfield. Etc...
What do you guys think? Possible? Plausible?

Shoot, and just when I thought I thoroughly researched this.
Well thanks for the answer and this can be locked/deleted.

sounds cool. i was thinking of a campaign type thing. were team one first has to assault muttrah city. if they succeed they then must capture Kashan. something like that, where a team starts by assaulting and then pushes inland.

Re: Could a multi-staged map be possible?
Well they are working on maps that are sorta a small scale version of this. Like there is a really big insurgency map being made where depending on what locations Blufor controls they will get different assets. Holding certain villages will allow them tank or even A10 support, and losing these points will also affect the battle in various ways.
I don't think thats what you mean though, I'm guessing you mean, can the outcome of a battle on one "map" affect what is available or what the scenario is for the second "map"? If that is your question, then I have no idea, but it sounds pretty complicated at best for BF2 to be able to do, but I know nothing of these matters.

The server admins can just control the maplist in that way, but I don't think you can code anything like that into the maps.

well.. i personally think this is a hard task....
Being that we are limited to 64 players, and ever yet! half of the servers have resserved slots... the simple fact is people leave/drop when a map changes or in the middle of a game... clan matches would make more sense for this option...
plausible.

Sounds like a nice idea

Yes it would be rather tricky to do, but the DEVs have done tougher things in the past. As for making something like this a clan event, I can see where your coming from but I think something like this should be available to the public, and that you don't need to be in a clan event to enjoy itsalisbury595 wrote:well.. i personally think this is a hard task....

Counter-attack mode was very similar but it didn't quite work and it was pulled in 0.85(?) and is being replaced at some point by Scenario mode afaik (although this has been in development for some time in various forms).

What you suggested could be done much like Korengal, where unless U.S. has Outpost, most of their equipment doesn't respawn.

python...
its a cool idea. i can only sratch the surface of possible gameplay elements. but whats hardcoded(im pretty sure) is the whole ticket system. how would that be workable?
lets say we took AAS mode and said, the two teams fight each other until one has taken an area of a map. once all flags have been captured in the area. the area becomes a strongpoint that cannot be retaken. the difference being that this game mode would take several hours to finish completely and the tickets would be far higher.
its really down to the programmer's capabilities.

How about this with muttrah?
standard US layout would be 2 hueys and a gunship huey, if they capture docks 2 extra hueys and the apc's spawn, sure makes people less focused on the air assets, and they will most likely more care about docks?

Locked for being a rehash of the well established scenario game mode concept.
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.
