I cant upgrade from v0.856
Ok so i recently bought the latest PC Powerplay magazine and in the disc i got with the magazine was PR v0.856. I installed it (keep in mind i had BF2 v.1.41 installed) and tried to play it but all the servers said something like "you dont have the maps that are currently in rotation in this server". I thought i had to get the latest version of PR. So i went to the website and downloaded the patch. I couldn't find one that upgrades from v0.856 so i downloaded the 0.85 one. I tried to install it, but it says v0.85 is not installed.
How can i upgrade to v0.86 from v0.856??
thanks brothers and sisters.

Download the 0.86 patch on the Downloads section of the website.

Re: I cant upgrade from v0.856
The disc you got should have two files on it; the Project Reality .856 Core, and Project Reality .856 Levels. You must have both of these installed in order for the .860 installer to work. Your other option is to download and install the .860 core + levels.
But wait, hold on, PC Powerplay sent out disks with their magazine with PR .856? That sounds like something I would have heard of by now...

Re: I cant upgrade from v0.856
so wait, ur telling me to play this game you need to download 2 seperate clinets? core AND levels? Why didnt the PR team just put it in one installer instead of 2? putting it into 2 confuses the **** out of people. So i have to download the 1.4gb file for the levels?
right, so, im downloading the v.086 levels. The core is v0.85...will it still work?

Re: I cant upgrade from v0.856
it should work
the reason they split it was to make each one smaller so people can down load them faster individually

Re: I cant upgrade from v0.856
i think for the .86 PATCH you need BOTH the .85 core and .85 levels
if you dont have BOTH then yes im preety sure you need BOTH .86 core and .86 levels
so yes, i think you need to download both .86 files
sorry for the confusion

Re: I cant upgrade from v0.856
If you "only" have 0.856 CORE installed, try this:
Download PR 0.860 LEVELS and 0.860 PATCH
Project Reality : Battlefield 2 Mod - Downloads
Now, you won't be able to install the levels or the patch, because it'll say that you don't have 0.860 core or 0.856 yeah? So, try this instead:
Browse to <bf2 install dir>/mods/pr/readme, make a new folder called "version". In this version folder, right click, and make a new text document. Rename this text document from "New Text Document.txt" to "core.086". Be sure to rename the file extension, if you can't see the file extension, you have to enable "view known file type extensions" (google it if you don't know how). When you have done this, install 0.860 LEVELS, it should allow you to install. Then when that's done, install 0.860 PATCH.
Bit of a serious work around, and it's really not recommended, but the option is there for you if you want it.
If this doesn't work for you, because your not sure what your doing or you can't follow the instructions for some reason, it's MUCH simpler and easier to just download and install 0.860 CORE then 0.860 LEVELS. Or, download and install 0.856 LEVELS (google it, there's plenty of links still around), and then download and install the 0.860 PATCH after that.

If you have the 0.856 core and levels on your computer, install them. Then download the small (350 mb or so) 0.860 patch and install it. Otherwise you need the full 0.860 CORE AND LEVELS. I recommend you use the torrents.

Re: I cant upgrade from v0.856
Ok, here it goes.
And, the proof of how these statements must be correct....
If you have .856 LEVELS and .856 CORE, you download the .860 PATCH.
The .860 PATCH is meant to patch a full .856 install up to .860.
If you have nothing, you download .860 LEVELS and .860 CORE
You do not need to download a full install of .856 just to also eventually download the .860 patch
If you have ONLY the .856 CORE OR ONLY the .856 LEVELS, then two options:Because of the fact that the .860 patch is a patch, what it needs to be patching is a full install of .856.
- Download COMPLIMENTING .856 FILE AND .860 PATCH
- Download .860 CORE and .860 Levels
If you have ONLY .860 CORE OR ONLY .860 LEVELS, you need to download the complimenting .860 file. You need a full install of .860 to play .860
And, the proof of how these statements must be correct....
Thought processes required to come to above conclusions wrote: There are three files on the downloads page. .860 Patch, .860 Core, .860 Levels. It doesn't make sense for a .860 patch to be patching the same version of itself, so this must be separate from these core and level files.
There are two files here that are a mystery. This core file, and this level file. I mean, core sounds pretty important. I don't think the core could possibly be optional. I also want to play on levels. You can't play without having levels to play on. This must not be optional either.
I have a file called .856 core. Now, why would I have a file called .856 core? Why not just .856? Why is there an adjective describing this file? There must be other files that this adjective is separating it from.
Look! This fancy .860 version has both a core file and a level file. .860 core.... .856 core... this must follow a pattern. There has to be a .856 level file somewhere else. Assuming we follow the same logic as in the second thought process, both .856 core and .856 level files must be required to play .856. I am missing .856 levels.
The current version is .860, I need to get the newest version to catch up with the rest of the crowd. What I have is .856 core, could I install that, then get this .860 patch? That doesn't make sense; where will the levels come from? I must have levels in order for the levels to be patched. In order to get the levels, I have to download and install the level files that need to be patched, being .856 levels.
Another option I have is to ignore my obsolete file and get a full installation of .860. That means downloading the two files that I deemed in process two to be required to play .860.

Uninstall it all and install it again..
