BIOS update

Post by Jigsaw »

Im getting a new CPU tomorrow (Intel Q8400) and i've been told that my mother board (an Abit IP35) will need its BIOS updating.

Anyone able to run me through how you do this? I've been told that it can be done through Windows but it would most likely fry the board if done that way so how can I do it?

Go to Asus' website, will probably have a guide, and your board usually has a tool in the BIOS.

You can use a floppy drive or use a flash pen drive to do it, and then you flash your BIOS with your new version.

Normally there's two ways either but adding to a floppy or from windows. Download their flash utility and the bios update put them both in the same location note bios name. you should have to load the flash utility and then load the bois it then flash's the bios ( DONT RESET WHEN ITS DOING IT ) read their instructions they wont be hard.

If you have a backup facility, suggest you back up the bios first because you know that one works. Flashing the bois isn't hard but its the one thing that can bugger up your MOBO permanently. Just take your time and it will be fine :)

What happens if the BIOS isn't updated cos all the information I have found is over a year old with the most recent updated BIOS on their website being from 26/05/08?

And the board itself is only about 4 months old... Surely it would have been sold with the most up to date settings.

Edit: nvm its an older version. Can I use a DVD to flash it?
