Hi guys,
I'm having trouble with this card and running bf2. What happens is that i go to the screen and choose a server. I click on it and it should go to the loading screen. However during the transition the game crashes to desktop. I can open bf2 and get on the server screen however when i go to load a map then the game simply CTD. It's not the resolution as this is vanilla problem atm. Any ideas?
My other specs are: 4gb DDR3 corsair RAM, intel Q9550 4x 2.83Ghz and vista 32bit.

I know you grabbed a new PC, did you have a new Hard Drive or did you use your old one?

im not sure if PR will work but reinstalling it twice seemed to work. Maybe it was a corrupted installation file- either the maps or direct X im not sure. The real test is when i put a wireless stick on the back and connect to the internet so i can download PR. Hopefully it will work and i wont need to post here again.

You do know 32 bits OS only use aproximately 3go of RAM?05grottim wrote:Hi guys,

You should have gone with Vista 64 bit with such a great machine.
64 bits OS can use A LOT more of ram (more than what motherboard can handle for now).
Yeah some software dont like 64bits OS but they are rare and most work.
To answer your question:
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... -86-a.html
"Q: I am crashing to desktop when loading/changing levels.
Q: I am getting a lot of lag on levels.
A: The most common cause of this is that you are running out of memory (though there are other causes). BF2 was a memory intensive game, and PR only increases on that.
First, you can try lowering your video settings, in particular, Textures. If that doesn't help or fix your issue, you can try increasing your virtual memory.
If that STILL doesn't work, you can try patching your bf2.exe to allow it to use more than 2GB of memory. This is only useful if you indeed do have more than 2GB of memory. Firstly, you want to backup your current bf2.exe in your "C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2" (default install location) folder. To do this, simply rename it from bf2.exe to bf2.exe.original. You should back it up incase you have any issues in the future. Now you need to download the patched bf2.exe. This can be found in THIS zip file (THIS one if your using the EA Downloader version) (If you get a virus warning, ignore it, just a false positive). Then simply extract it next to bf2.exe.original, and your good to go."
That .exe patch may help you. Maybe PR is not crashing because of your video card but I don't know how good BF2/PR support dual core video card because the HD4870x2 have two gpu wich is like a mini crossfire and some games dont like that.

He was CTDing at start up, not while loading levels, but yes the cracked bf2.exe would be a good solution, but I feel it was a corrupt install more than anything.

Re: BF2 and Radeon HD4870X2
firstly thanks for your help guys. However it turned out that things are a lot more serious. Ran mem test as wasnt sure if it was RAM. turned out it was. After testing 0.5% i got 550 errors. So that would probably explain the problems. It would just crash when i load something as ther wasnt enough RAM. So thanks guys. To answer the question about the OS i think thats sorted. Ive got an upgrade for windows 7 so will just upgrade to 64bit when SP1 for that comes out.
