J-Dam(s) area attack

Post by Conman51 »

We all know the J-Dam has a cool sound effect and all and big smoke.

But really, how effective is it!?!? You know when you cal a J-Dam on a hill or mountain it hits it in a weird direction and makes mountains look like volcanos, and dont really kil much, a change in elevation makes the J-Dam ineffective :-?

So my suggestion is have smaller 500lb J-Dams hit quiclky one after another in a big radius about the size of the current J-Dam in a group of maybe 4 or 5

What will this change do? Cover a mountain better, make it so you dont have any side ways mushroom clouds.

Its not that much of a change but i do see it making these 1 hour wait area attacks more useful

Yea i know what your talking about it does make the side of a mountain look like a volcano, and i like the looks of a 500 pound jdam they do look a lot smaller and they probably could be more effective on the side of mountains.

How it is now ingame I would much rather have artillery on a map instead of Jdams. The artillery just does that role so much better with multiple small explosions.

Is it possible to make the JDAM have a splash damage radius that will go through any material in-game? Even the ground of the map?

I'd much rather get rid of the J-dam all together and have Arty // carpet bombing. About 20 bombs dropped from an overhead jet then runs in a strip depending on where it's called from. Say if it's called from the South West onto North Village on Kashan. Then the first bomb would hit on the south West side of North Village, then continue with around 5 meter spacing between bombs. Meaning taking out convoy's would be better as well as countering the whole hill problem

i've always wondered about the suppression effect of the jdam, i figured such a large explosion would suppress anyone in the vicinity.

Supported. J-DAMs suck atm, i've been 20 feet from one and survived because I was in a minor depression below the level of the strike...

Sat inside a bunker as a jdam hit the roof. Was awesome hearing it but i got supressed a little and watched fob emplacements fall apart outside but nothing else. The entire squad was fine and held off the following infantry attack.

I never actually got hit by it but I've seen it blow up and I must say it looks cool but not effective.

I agree the Jdam just needs some tweaking maybe have it explode above ground so people hiding in a 1 foot depression won't survive.

I think currently the J-dam has a domed shaped kill radius I dont know if it's possible to change it to a sphere but that might solve alot of problems. As I said I don't know if it's possible but it would be nice

I would agree, a large sphere shaped explosion radius. Or even to make it more effective.

Jdam hit's the ground, triggers the explosion whichdraws a cube or a sphere down from about 50 meters up and continues for 75 meters down. Therefore anything within the radius of the explosion is killed.

Add this in with the explosion going through certain buildings or jsut all and we have ourselves an effective Jdam.

other than that I sitll say Carpet bombing :P

If you want to see just how much the jdam fails.Go look at my latest post on the screenshot thread. some people were directly under the explosion and were completely unhurt.

I remember a while back I was playing qwai and we had a bunker in the gov office, I was leading a squad in defence. A jdam landed on the bunker, 3m away from me and killed no one but destroyed the bunker. To be fair, it did scare the shit out of me though!

Would the USMC really use this over artillery in real life?
