Different weapons have different barrel twists. M16A2 has 1:12": M249 has 1:7". This has a direct effect upon the ammunition that is suitable for that weapon, regardless of a shared calibre. And this is why the M249 uses the 5.56 Penetrator (M855 - 62gr) and the M16 uses the Ball (M193 - 55gr) They are different in size and mass

The M16A1 uses a 1:12 barrel twist, becuase it was designed to use the .223 remmington, not the 5.56x45mm NATO round. It was originally intended to use a 1:14 barrel twist as this produced the famed "meat ax" effect, but it was changed becuase the accuracy with the 1:14 was very, very bad.

The M16A2 uses a 1:7 barrel twist, same as an FN Minimi because the NATO standard is now the 5.56x45 SS109 (US designation M855). The M16A2 (ie the one in the game) and the FN Minimi DO NOT use different ammunition.

The AK-74 series, (essentially the AK-101, but in a better calibre (yegads! i insulted 5.56 NATO!)) is available with wooden furnature, some people even prefer it, as its more comfortable, or aesthetically pleasing, or, if the SHTF, they can use it as a club without fear of it shattering (M15 anyone?)

And, the earlier AKM is available with poly furnature.

you appear to be facing your facts that the AK-101 is only different because of its different furnature and calibre. not true.

the AK-101 is different from the AK-47 in the following ways:

• Poly magazines vs. Steel
• stamped receiver vs. milled
• side folding buttstock vs. solid (or underfolding, in the case of AK-47S)
• 5.56 NATO vs. 7.62 Soviet
• different pistol grips
• muzzle break vs. thread protector
• blackened bolt vs. unfinished silver bolt.
• unvented foregrips vs. vented...

i could go on if you really wanted, but i think i'll leave it there.

You know a lot of fellas are nit picking at little details in some of the things I say. While everything may not be perfectly accurate (Since when is this a user manual?) it's no reason to bash over little details. Hell, we all know google is there and that most of you are just checking what people write and pasting into the search engine. How many of you hunt or own a gun? Experience tells me the majority of you DON'T. Now I know we have a lot of ex/current military people here (ultimate.maverick, and a lot of the mod-testers) but that does not account for the majority of the forum users. I ask that a lot of you stop with the nit-picking and focus on the topic of the thread (Because now I'm off topic and I flipping hate that!)

Anyway the velocities are very different. AK101 910m/s and the M16A1 is at 950 m/s and M16A2 at 970 m/s.

never said the AK-101 had wooden furnature. I'm saying that the way you distinguish between the various different types of AK is completely wrong.

AKMs were available with polymer furnature, this is BEFORE 1974, and the earliest versions of the AK-74 (which is what the AK-101 is, essentially, just in a different calibre) had wood furnature. the AK-101 doesnt have wooden furnature becuase it has a side folding stock which require the folding mechanism to be part of the stock, and thats bloody hard to do when you're working with wood.

If you really wanted, i could tell you the ways in which the Type 56 is different from an AK-47, too.

The Chinese comnpletely replaced the Type 56 (AK-47) with the Type 81 (AK-74) by the late '80s. They're currently starting the phase out the Type 81 with the Type 95, but it's likely the switch won't be complete for another decade. Either way, BF2 is wrong that they're still using AK-47s, mainly because they were never referred to as that. I'm sure a lot of people would get upset if BF2 referred to the M16 as the CAR-15 or the L85A1 as the SA80. Seems silly how they got that wrong in the first place...

Well a start would be the non-detachable triple bladed bayonet, with desingned to increase blood loss and reduce the chance of a blood clot forming.

I really think the chinese should have the bayonet affixed to all available weapons. The CAR-95 (Spec Ops) and Type 81 (Assault, Medic) could have the foldable bayonet that can be deployed when you press '1'. It'd have a similar deploy animation to that of the leaf on the grenade launcher, just shows the player flicking it out and the stab animations would be simple, just have the player swing the thing forwards. It'd have a slow 'rate of fire' but could be more powerful than a standard knife blow, I think I'm right in believe PRMM nerfed the knifes to below one hit kills. It'd also be nice if the assault class lost the GL in favour of hand grenades too, just to add a little variation to the sides.

Agreed. A knife hit should produce 1 shot kills.
