Many problems with PR
Hi,
Here are the specs of my computer BTW I received it the 17 of July
Operating System:Vista Familial Prenium (64 bits)
Dell, Inspiron 537s
Processor:Intel Core2 Duo CPU E8500 3.16Ghz
RAM: 4Gig
Anti-Virus: Avast! and McAffe(Wich came with my comp and I don't know how to put out...)
Ok so...BF2 was working perfectly before I downloaded the Patch 1.41 for PR. Then with the patch 1.41, I had low ping...from 30 to 50, and every 10 seconds approximately, there was a yellow text appearing saying: There is a problem with you're connexion. Then it would dissappear and the game would continue. I downloaded PR, hoping it would be O.K, but it was doing the same, and I couldn't finish a round because the game would close with an error message saying:
BF2 Memory Error
memory.dll:all alloc attempts failed for size 749984
Then I asked for help on a server and someone told me to download the new drivers for my comp on Dell website. After I download them, I couldn't even join the training servers anymore, the game would close write after the download, during the Veryfying client data. He told me to roll back drivers, but I couldn't because for my comp, the drivers were up to date and there was nothing wrong.
PLZ HELP ME...=(
PS: Sorry for my bad english...it's my second language

Re: Many problems with PR
Q: I am crashing to desktop when loading/changing levels.
Q: I am getting a lot of lag on levels.
A: The most common cause of this is that you are running out of memory (though there are other causes). BF2 was a memory intensive game, and PR only increases on that.
First, you can try lowering your video settings, in particular, Textures. If that doesn't help or fix your issue, you can try increasing your virtual memory.
If that STILL doesn't work, you can try patching your bf2.exe to allow it to use more than 2GB of memory. This is only useful if you indeed do have more than 2GB of memory. Firstly, you want to backup your current bf2.exe in your "C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2" (default install location) folder. To do this, simply rename it from bf2.exe to bf2.exe.original. You should back it up incase you have any issues in the future. Now you need to download the patched bf2.exe. This can be found in THIS zip file (THIS one if your using the EA Downloader version) (If you get a virus warning, ignore it, just a false positive). Then simply extract it next to bf2.exe.original, and your good to go.
Grab that new bf2.exe and back up your old one and then swap them over. Also, the connection problems may be due to having 2 Anti viruses running... If you google McAfee Removal - Download McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool 2.0.155.1 - Will remove all 2005, 2006, and 2007 versions of McAfee consumer products - Softpedia then you can remove this

Thanks alot!
But will it also fix the problem that makes the game close when I open a training server? There is error message to that, and it happens because I downloaded the drivers I think

Yes, use that bf2.exe, sounds like you have a memory issue which is caused by BF2 no being allocated enough RAM for your system.

Re: Many problems with PR
Just go into your BF2 folder, and rename your bf2.exe to something like, old.exe or something, then, unzip the bf2.exe into that folder, and then run PR as normal
You dont need to back up your whole BF2 folder no, just the bf2.exe that is already in there.

Have you uninstalled your Mcaffee?
Also, what server are you trying to join, is it on all servers you get a connection problem?

Re: Many problems with PR
Always play WIRED.
Wireless can have lots of interference issues.
Most if not all connection problems are caused by PB or firewall issues (IMHO)
Keep PB updated:
Before you go online to join a server
you should:
1. Download pbsvc
2. Start pbsvc installer, you should see options for install, uninstall, test.
3. Run the Uninstaller, then delete the PB folder to remove any leftover files.
4. Restart your computer.
5. reinstall punk buster files with pbsvc( if your using Vista DO NOT set compatibility to XP, run as admin ok)
6. After pcsvc installs, click the "test" option to check the punk buster install you just did.
5. Make sure it comes back "all green"
6.Download pbsetup(pbsvc DOES NOT install pbsetup.
If your using Vista DO NOT set compatibility to XP, run as admin ok)
7.Create a pbsvc installer shortcut AND pbsetup program shortcut on your desktop.
8.Run pbsetup (from the shortcut on your desktop) add BF2 to the games list, then hit update."
(pbsvc installs the punk buster 'engines' or applications.
PBsetup installs the files/gas the 'engines run)
Firewall not set up (open) for BF2 and punk buster
UPDATE YOUR FIREWALL
Make sure your firewall has permission for:
BF2.EXE
PBSETUP.EXE
(search for your location)
PNKBSTRA.EXE
path:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSWOW64\PNKBSTRA.EXE
or (not 100% sure but for 32 bit O/S I think it's)C:\WINDOWS\SYSWOW32\PNKBSTRA.EXE
PnkBstrB.exe
path:
"C:\Users\"your user name here"\AppData\Roaming\PnkBstrB.exe"
Are you using the downloaded version of BF2? IF yes check out:
Another fix to try when having crash to desktop issues
Some routers with 'packet inspection' turned on can also trigger a disconnect when game
data or voip traffic triggers a false "ping flood"attack and the router shuts down
needed ports to protect your network.
So try turning packet inspection off to see if that helps.
If you have a busy network you can also get dropped if your packets are consistently
getting delayed due to high traffic.( your ping jumps way up from time to time)
If your running Xp you can tune up your internet connection with [url=http://www.
speedguide.net/files/TCPOptimizer.exe]TCP Optimizer[/url] to maximize throughput.
check out speed guides
web site
TCP/IP Analyzer
results will show if you can improve throughput.
Having a router like D-links gamers lounge, that can prioritize traffic( they call it
GameFuel), can make a night and day difference.
This GameFuel improves your online gaming experience by ensuring that your game traffic
is prioritized over other network traffic, such as FTP or Web. This is of course much more
helpful on networks with more than one user, but if you like to download bit torrent or
other large files in the background while gaming you'll be glad you have one that can prioritize or 'shape' traffic.
So the question is where is the bottle neck? Is it inside the network (your PC to your router) or outside (modem to game server)
Inside a better router should help.
Outside improved throughput should help.
Good luck

Thanks alot, but I think the problem is, my comp to the game, and the only solution you proposed for that was working on XP only...

Re: Many problems with PR
You use the app TCP Optimizer to adjust your RWINs
RWINs = receiving window. IE size of data packet received. It's been a while since I've done it. Get someone to help you with TCP Optimizer if you don't feel comfortable working with it. Back up or write down settings before you change things to be on the safe side!
Good luck
You ISPs tech heads should be able to talk you through it.

I ran the TCP optimizer, it didn't change to a number on the list they show, but there were no connezion problems anymore, and then since yesterday, it came back...
