Re: AKM for AK using faction
I know, I'm just pointing out that the OP is somewhat over stating the improvement it makes. Though there is certainly an improvement (some sources suggest a great deal of improvement, I know of an ex-32 Battalion soldier who claims recoil was so light he could fire the weapon comfortably single handed). But theres a big jump between lower muzzle flip andhiberNative wrote: yeah, it doesn't eliminate it completely. it directs recoil into the shoulder, reducing muzzle rise. it's inferior to the ak74 style muzzle break (because it doesn't eliminate recoil in the same way, just redirects it) but is smaller and more simple in its design.
Another issue with this is the prevelence of non-compensated AK-types, particularly the Chinese Type-56 which are rarely, if ever, seen with compensators on military models (save for the muzzle device on the shorty model).-Slant muzzle brake: No muzzle jump. Kicks straight back.
At the moment the ingame "AK-47" is acting as sort of a hodge podge of the million and one 7.62x39mm AK variants out there, which again, is one of the problems of the AK sereis. It'd be nice to have Yugoslav M70s, Hungarian AMD-65s, Romanian AIMS and everything in between and beyond each with thier own little tweaks to the performance its not very practical, barring the DEV team suddenly being given models and animations for the whole lot.
Additionally, while the rifle may be somewhat gimped compared to its real life companion, as has been pointed out earlier in this thread, so is everthing else so its hardly a big disadvantage.
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

Re: AKM for AK using faction
Well if in real life Chinese Type 56 is ALMOST never equipped with muzzle brake, and ALMOST always have slant buttstock, then in real life it will have same controllability issue as Russian AK47 did. So that is their problem, and their disadvantage, and somehow PLA or Chinese govenment are not fixing them.
And yes you are correct. There is many variety of 7.62mm and 5.45mm AK out there. And with each one equipped with different hand grip, sight, scope, buttstock, muzzlebrake, magazine, barrel or barrel length, and accessories, the performance of gun will be different sometimes severely like I try to say about difference between 47 and M.
But as for now, AK series used in this game is used by either Iraqi, Taliban (Middle East), Chechen, or Russian so I think it will be safe to say and will be realistic to say Russian variant or something alot similar to Russian style AKM is in use. That is, compare to other variants made by many other countries.
But what could be at least said, from what I saw in books and webpages, AK variants made out of AKM type receiver is almost always having either slant muzzle brake or some other type of muzzle brake. If not, they are at least equipped with straight buttstock. As for 5.45mm varitant, not always but Russian AK74 type muzzle brake is very common.

picture was taken during city competition between schools, we had to pass physical trials( chin-ups, running and etc.), strip down AK, put on gas masks(city record is 3 seconds lol), first medical help trials and other stuff, they promised us a competition in night orienteering but it was canceled
that was the first time i saw how to disassemble it and had to do that on timer, took nearly 1m 50 seconds. second attempt was ~1mmy record is 33 seconds
ontopic, other thing which heavily influence accuracy of AK's is ammo and as far as i know INS usually get ****, add here **** quality of "exported" ak's itself and you realize that muzzle brake wont change much

Re: AKM for AK using faction
Well, I hope I don't get smashed for reviving this thread, but I agree with the idea of having AKM's and AKMS's to at least supplement the AK-47 variants in PR. I mean, our current model (0.917) has a Type 3 receiver, AKM style receiver cover, and a Type 2 front sight. Hell, if the DEVs got permission, I'm sure they could borrow a Maadi AK-74 hybrid from FPSBANANA and slap a 7.62x39mm AK mag on it. My sources (I'm going to paraphrase a bit in paranoia):
Modern Firearms - Kalashnikov AK-47 AKM Assault Rifle
The key changes on the AKM include the introduction of stamped steel receiver and components, rather than milled, improved trigger group, with a hammer delay system, a new straightened buttstock for the AKM (a more level folding buttstock for the AKMS), and a detachable compensator. The AKM is known to be slightly more accurate than the AK-47 Type 3, and is about a kilogram or so lighter. Also, the AKM series has an improved sighting system.
Kalashnikov AKM (AK-M) - Assault Rifle - History, Specs and Pictures - Military, Security, Civilian, Law Enforcement and Sporting Small Arms, Weapons and Equipment
Well, I hope at least this suggestion is reconsidered, as using the AKM is not just an aesthetic change, but a realistic one. The chances of seeing an AKM (this includes Type 56's,Maadi's, Pm 63's, PMKM's, and any other non-russian AK variant) over an AK-47 are probably at least 10 to 1. I'm not going to say I expect this immediately, just before PR BF2 is officially released.

Re: AKM for AK using faction
Hello. Thank you for posting to my thread. And I think this is still a current topic.
I have posted this thread back in 0.86 if I remember correctly.
PR has since chagned to 0.87 patch, full 0.909, then current to 0.917 patch.
When PR changed to 0.87 with patch, I posted a thread regarding AK47 became too 'controllable' compared to 0.86, which I think is unrealistic. Because I thought 0.86 AK47s 'uncontrollability' was just right. As of current version 0.917 patch, I still feel AK47 recoil is SLIGHTLY weak compared to 0.86.
But with the new version comes the new gun. The RPK. And here is what I want to state about new RPK in this version.
Basically, RPK is the Light Machinegun version of AKM. The RPK has longer barrel, bipod, and larger buttstock compared to AKM. Although not depicted in Project Reality, RPK should have Slant muzzle brake. So, this RPK handling is supposedly the depiction of AKM I asked for.
I made a quick comparison with AK47, RPK, and AK74 in Local server. A rough comparison of how far muzzle will climb after shooting 30 shot fullauto, aimed, standing position, and without pulling down on mouse. If I were to say AK47 muzzle climb is 100, and no muzzle climb is 0,
AK47 - 100
RPK - 80
AK74 - 75
But something doesn't seem right. This PKM muzzle violently kick down and then up when fired. Making RPK harder to stay aimed on target compared to a AK47.
Now I don't know much about RPK performance compared to what I know about AK47 and AKM handling. But considering this is what supposedly the Project Reality term of RPK depiction, I came to two possible conclusion.
1. Depiction is correct. RPK actually handles this way.
The possibility of RPK handling this way.
Considering RPK uses same muzzle brake as AKM, with longer barrel of RPK, leverage effect takes place and actually kicks down the barrrel.
2. Depiction is not correct. RPK should handle like AKM.
Also adding to this, if RPK handles like AKM, or kicks DOWN compared to AKM, RPK should have less muzzle climb distance compared to AK74, which is not the case. yes I know RPK in this mod has 40 round magazine. I tested with only 30 rounds in.
As I understand, Even with advanced AK74 type muzzle brake, it has more muzzle climb than AKM slant muzzle brake. (Please refer to my first post for more detail)

Re: AKM for AK using faction
The thing is, the RPK's barrel doesn't accept the slant muzzle brake; it's too thick. I haven't played 0.86, but I think the AK-47's recoil is just fine. If you look at the AK-74 vs. the M16 on recoil, the AK-74 seems to have more. On a side note, the stock on the RPK is wrong as well.

You are right maybe. I really don't have much information regarding RPK such as if different barrel on RPK does not accept the AKM muzzle brake.CommunistColby71 wrote:The thing is, the RPK's barrel doesn't accept the slant muzzle brake; it's too thick. I hope all AK models improve soon with great detail. I don't mean to be sarcastic truly, but I was kind of surprised to see vertical grips on LA85 and M16/M4 even though the vertical grip suggestion on those guns was bashed alot every time it was suggested.

I gave up on remembering the best time, thou I think that was about the same time for me.Mordred[BG] wrote:my record is 33 seconds
The problem with measuring time is, if you have a bad judge (lazy officer) and a really bad rifle, and if you cheat a bit (like unscrewing the muzzle break so that it takes only 1sec to unscrew it) - you can do the impossible.
One guy I served with did it in like 5 seconds.
I'm not kidding. He removed the clip, did the safety check, and slammed the butt into the ground, and the rifle fell a part by itself, lol. He got a new rifle tomorrow.
It's a fairly good joke, but don't get confused. I've never been in Russia, but everything I heard about russian girls sounds really good. cause soldiers irl use them...alot. and it can be confirmed via many sources. As for changeing the current AKs to AKMs...well it's hard because theres no way to tell for sure what model is being used by who. Especially for insurgencies it's usually a big mix of any AK model hell for all we know it could be the body of an original 47 and the barrel from an AKM macguyvered together with duct tape and engine oil. (emergency field repair anyone?)Human_001 wrote: I hope all AK models improve soon with great detail. Information in the hands of a critical thinker is invaluable, information alone is simply dangerous.
