In the majority of match ups in PR the enemy would not be speaking your language by default.

The MAIN point of Mumble benefitting PR is that you can talk to the blue guys.
There's no point in talking about realism because there is no sound occlusion. ie, you can hear people talking clearly through walls and such.
Having the 'after battle natter' is impossible with 64 people in channel. I do love being able to taunt/ laugh at the enemy but Mumble is easily exploitable with everyone in 1 channel.

and btw "whispering" in to mumble does nothing tbh, microphone picks it up with some noise and sends it to teh same radius.

Its not realistic hearing a little 10 year-old Brit boy's voice coming from an Insurgent character.
I fully support two channels per server. Since the recent splurge of Mumble activity, I have noticed a resurgence in tea-bagging, which I thought most of us left in vBF2. I would think most soldiers would respect the dead as they understand that that very well could be their body and not the enemy's. Having two channels is much better for team cohesion and overall gameplay in my opinion.

Yes but at least you know a single channel is insecure, and therefore you act accordingly. With 2 channels, it could give a false sense of security, and without some kind of auto channel swutching, its that system which would be exploited, and create a massive amount of work for admins.
Admining 2 channels with 20 people = easy
Admining 2 channels with 64 people = very f'ing hard!

well Space, it has to be said that the channels that you currently admin have a paucity of mumble admins.space wrote:Yes but at least you know a single channel is insecure, and therefore you act accordingly. At TG we would handle it the same way we handle TS channels, if someone is known to be spying on the other team we would reprimand them. For mumble two channels is not as hard to admin:space wrote:Yes but at least you know a single channel is insecure, and therefore you act accordingly. Hopping in the other teams general channel will only help if the enemy is near and using mumble. Hopping in their SL chat would be the same as what you have to do now.
I'd definitely prefer a mumble autoswitching which I hear is possible, which would also lighten your admin load. I'm guessing that there could easily be an option to have a single general channel instead of 2 by server choice if the auto is implemented.

Too much spam, I'd rather hear game sounds than a bunch of chatter from a dead guy.

All i can say is, if the admins can do it, great. But i want to play.
And i think we should just keep the 1 channel until autoswitch is ready... Patience friends...

Since it's a reality mod, what about getting used to it? Figure it, in a war, people dying, being shot. You think you wouldn't hear a sound? Obviously you would. And if you really don't like it, ask to your squadmates to be quiet when dead. That could work too.'[FC wrote:Freddie;1096272']Too much spam, I'd rather hear game sounds than a bunch of chatter from a dead guy.

Yes! And I do not understand why people would create a mumble only squad... Use VOIP for your battle-plans and let Mumble do person to person chatter to not clog up the VOIP channel. Or blue guy chatter ofcourseSgt.Smeg wrote:The MAIN point of Mumble benefitting PR is that you can talk to the blue guys.

But yea, having seen how many players come from the Reality Teamwork with mumble installed I have to agree with this point. Altough I thought this would be a way to get more people to use it, we have now seen this confirmed by the work from Reality Teamwork

I regretfully have to agree. I love mumble and won't play without it. Unfortunately there are a few issues that need to be worked out, but you have to agree that the potential for mumble is phenominal.'[FC wrote:Freddie;1096272']Too much spam, I'd rather hear game sounds than a bunch of chatter from a dead guy.
Not only have I heard there is a possibility for auto-switching channels, but having new players that joined the mumble server, without being in game, to be deafened and muted until having spawned in; and having dead players deafened and muted until respawned. That would rock!

Agreed Hyde, excepting with muting dead guys. I play as a medic most of the time and, man, is it useful knowing which body to revive, i won't waste epipens anymore.

Dude, me as an insurgent, with hands up, screaming at enemies "DON'T KILL ME, I'M A CIVILLIANNNNN" and they laughing, and then my squadmates come from behind a nearby wall and shoot'em.
Definitely, mumble needs to work between the teams. You can't dismiss that kind of fun.

It's a brilliant concept, and it could be a must have communications tool - but hearing sounds, direction of movement, fire ect is a huge part in being able to play effectively.
It's extremely difficult to play SL and try to lead when there are 4 or 5 different sources of communications going on.
With VOIP, VOIP commander, Mumble SL, Screen messages and perhaps a TC or Vent channel and on top of this you have all these guys blabbing away non stop about your mamma or whatever - sure it's humorous but honestly takes away from the reality and the focus on playing.
I've never fought in a war so I can't say with conviction but I'm gonna guess when there is a chance your gonna have your head blown off at any moment you're not talking smack - so I don't buy the "more realistic" argument. It's less IMHO.
I can see it work if it's kept much more local maybe to within 10 yards, and deafen to dead players. I'm 60/40 on two channels only because I think it would help cut out the smack but take away from the potential reality.
I hope it can be worked to make it less tardish, as I said - brilliant concept.
