Do you have what it takes to become a moderator?

Post by Dunehunter »

Big thanks to Masaq for writing the text ;)

Dear Community,

Following several members of the R-MOD team moving on to other posts over the past year, the Moderation Team are currently looking for a new member to join our ranks and as it's been a while since we last had an open application process, we've decided that the current vacancy will be filled through direct application.

Moderators fulfill an important role on the forums and joining the Project Reality Team as an R-MOD is not an easy way to gain the 'tags', gain access to pre-release information or test builds. R-MODs are expected to put time and effort into ensuring that the forum rules are upheld, and that they are applied fairly. You will go from regular forum member to community enemy #1, and may, at times, find yourself having to remind friends or clanmates of the rules.

You'll need good communication skills, the ability to explain yourself and deal with complaints civilly and most importantly - be willing to work as a member of a very close team.

So if you think you've got the time and skills required to be a moderator then please apply below, giving us the following information.

Applications via private Messages or e-mail will be deleted, as will posts that are not questions about the role or actual applications.

Closing date for applications will be: Sunday the 9th of August , the successful applicant(s) will be notified via PM after that date.

Any non-application posts will be removed. Application posts may be moved to our private forums, so don't worry if your application dissapears.
We do -not- guarantee that anyone will be picked through this procedure. If you don't hear from us regarding your application, please don't come to us. If we pick someone, we will contact them.

Age: 16 (17 in Dec)
Length of time on forums: 2 years ( Started with different account )
Rough "daily browing time": 1h to 1 & half hours.
Previous relevant experience: In-game admin & forum moderator on games I used to play, currently in-game admin at BigD aswell as forum moderator/admin at Reality Teamwork.
What skills you would bring to the team/Why you'd be a good Moderator: I know how to control myself even when personal comments/posts are directed towards me & despite my age I'm not one of those power hungry teenagers. I can also cover the Asia-Pacific time zones while all you chaps are in bed.
Why you want to be a moderator: Help out the Community more, ease the load on other moderators.

Previously applied to Masaq when all the spots were taken just thought I should apply again seeing as Mas has moved on to a different job & because of my name change (AACommando), could have confused things.

What skills you would bring to the team/Why you'd be a good Moderator: I've got a good sense of humor, I atleast check this site 5-6 times a day, and I'm up for a challenge. (I regard moderating as a challenge, it ain't always easy)
Why you want to be a moderator: I've always wanted to do moderating. I like to manage things and at the same time keeping everything in order, so it won't be one big mess. It's also hard to become a moderator on bigger sites like this, and this will probably one of those rare moments I actually get a chance to apply as a moderator. I'm slightly young, but I'm mature (thanks to the internet) and I got a good set of brains.

I am also able to not to jump to conclusions without proper research into arguments and such.

About me:
  • Age: 49 years
  • Length of time on forums: Join date 06-23-2006
  • Rough "daily browsing time": 0.5 - 2 hours. It depends on how busy I am.
  • Previous relevant experience: I am an forum administrator at our community Skyttegrav.se
list over adminstrators (one has to be logged in to see who is who).
  • What skills you would bring to the team/Why you'd be a good Moderator: I am an "adult" and probably my scrutinizing is done with other eyes than those that are younger. (No offence by that!) That would maybe bring a “second opinion” to the moderating task, which is good. I am used to be a forum moderator for many years, and I know when to say stop and mean it.
I have zero tolerance with racist slurs, harsh sex jokes and harassment. (No I am not stiff as a person, but I do believe that people shall get respected).
On the positive side I like to help people and the words “thank you” is heaven for me.
  • Why you want to be a moderator: I want to be a moderator to help the Project Reality’s forum to maintain a good standard and to be there if someone forum member calls out for assistance.

Magrioteli

Length of time on forums: About 2 years, joined 04-10-2007.

Rough "daily browsing time": I'm on the forums daily for extended amounts of time. Over three hours a day.

Previous relevant experience: N/A

What skills you would bring to the team/Why you'd be a good Moderator: I treat people the way I like to be treated. The rules are the rules, they need to be enforced. Keeping respectful, polite, and impersonal to other users would be a strong suit for me.

Why you want to be a moderator: If there's a need. I am able and willing to donate my time to the PR community.

Age: 20

Length of time on forums: Over a year, lurked for a while before actually joining.

Daily browsing time: Everyday, I usually check the forums at least 6/7 times a day for at least 15 minutes at a time reading and responding if necessary to most threads in the main PR sections.

Skillz: I am a long term player of PR, been around long enough to know the rules well and have the communication skills to enforce them to all. I am a member of the PRT and have been a moderator for my squad's forum within the main tournament forum, so I have existing knowledge of the moderation tools and of the AWS warning system. I am generally polite and informative and structure my posts well taking in as many sides of an argument as I can whilst giving my view. I am also an existing member of the PR team in a beta testing role. In-game I can be found leading my DM squads on european servers and have a lot of experience in terms of leadership and carrying over my experience to others. I also have started a thread for recommending squad leaders in the tales from the front section.

Why: I have had a long standing desire to be a moderator and have applied a couple of times in the past when people weren't actually needed. I feel that I am one of the most mature and sensible members of the PR community and would like to continue to encourage good nature and friendship within these forums, following the rules as we continue to grow as a mod and as a community.

Edit: Also if possible I would like to use [R-MOD]'s Crazyasian and Eddiereyes as references. Both know me well from the PRT, DM and the testing team and im sure can vouch for me.

Age: 17

Length of time on forums: Coming up on four years.

Rough "daily browing time": 2-4 hours, usually morning or night Eastern US time

Previous relevant experience: R-PUB and Tester from .3 to .8; PRT Administrator including time moderating, PR player since .1, PRT Member since C1

What skills you would bring to the team/Why you'd be a good Moderator: I have experience with adminning in the PRT as well as working with the MOD and PR team during my time as a PUB/NUB. Moreover, I've been around for ages and know most of the community first hand. I've matured greatly in the four years I've been here and enjoy working with the team and community. Since returning a few months ago from a hiatus from the game, not the forums, I've been looking for a way to help once again.

  1. Age: 24
  2. Length of time on forums: joined this account 08-08-2008, but had an old one called one-weak that i had deleted when i changed name.
  3. Rough "daily browing time": probably over an hour or 2 daily.
  4. Previous relevant experience: vip member on battletracker with 4459 posts. trusted .tekh (including privileges such as sections administrator, users administrator, graphic administrator and global moderator) on akatekh (layout under construction).
  5. What skills you would bring to the team/Why you'd be a good Moderator: i am analytical and fast to respond, but not afraid to admit mistakes. i think i've proven myself to be an active member on this forum and i feel that i am ready to take some responsebility.
  6. Why you want to be a moderator: i'm often first inside new topics that should be closed/merged, so i'll be a swift asset to the mod team. i also understand the relevance of cursing and the what kind of negative attention it might attract from the web, so i can't wait to edit some posts in pink :3
i've been wanting to be a moderator a while now and i know i'll do a great job of keeping this site just as well maintained as the mod itself.
cheers!

Length of time on forums: Join date = 04-05-2009. But I've been a ghost on the forums for a long time, lurking in the shadows, I think around 2007 I started visiting the forums. I had a username but subsequently forgot the email/pass/username.
Rough "daily browing time": I don't know of the time, but I check the forums each time I open my web browser, so 40+ times a day, for maybe upto 10 minutes at a time.
Previous relevant experience: I admin and mod several Photography forums and Co-run an Image Library and contribute my time to a handful of Photo Agencies. So, I think I'm pretty qualified for the job. Also previous admin experience in PR for a Clan looking after BF2CC etc etc.
What skills you would bring to the team/Why you'd be a good Moderator: I'm organised, I have a lot of admin and moderation experience, both paid and unpaid. I have a mature head and a positive outlook on things. I am able to accept responsibility and act accordingly within any rules set before me. I'm also a great believer in Grammar and feel that a well communicated message will be perceived and understood correctly by the reader(s) and as a result can stop a lot of the miscommunication we get over the internet.
Why you want to be a moderator: I would LIKE to be a mod because I feel that I could offer patience to those who need it as well as a hard moral stance to those who need to be corrected and "moderated" - something that is not often seen a lot of these forums.

- Rough "daily browing time": Well the news page is my homepage lol, and im usually on the fourms for around 3 hours every day but depending on what im doing it could be more or less.
- Previous relevant experience:None as a moderator, but everybody has got to start somewhere. :)
- What skills you would bring to the team/Why you'd be a good Moderator: Im an Air Cadet so im expected to have good leadership/communications skills, and nobody i know in real life uses these fourms so you don't have to worry about me going easier on some people and not on others. I am also very mature, but I have a good sense of humour aswell. I use reasonably good grammar when typing.
- Why you want to be a moderator: To get the dog tags :-D only joking. Ive always thought I would be good as a moderator because I can help the community and im willing to donate my time and effort to Project Reality. I also want to join the Police when im older so this could be the sort of thing I do for a living in a couple of years time.

Age: 20

Length of time on forums: 3 and a half years.

Rough "daily browing time": Hour a day I would imagine, perhaps more.

Previous relevant experience: I've hosted numerous forums including gaming communities and clans which required carefull moderation. However the bulk of my experience comes from an official MMO forum, Face of Mankind, during its beta stages which was for one year, although the MMO itself never really was a grand success and eventually closed due to finacial issues it did teach me a great deal. Duties included general moderation which required extensive logs, which tbh was a bit of a nuisance but was there to avoid abuse of the system. Other roles I took on was community PR and a weekly forum event. Also I was a member of the PRT team but had too step down due to my working hours not allowing me to be avaible for the sessions, moderating would not have the same issues.

What skills you would bring to the team/Why you'd be a good Moderator: I have a great deal of previous experience. Too add, I work in the leisure and catering industry which requires excellent people skills and internal management. With all these factors it gives me great scope in how too deal with problems as they arise in a proffesional manor.

Why you want to be a moderator: Honestly, to help give back to the devolpment team that has provided me so much fun over the years. Also to stop personal attacks on other members of the community.

Regards,
Me

Rough "daily browing time": I am browsing the forums maybe three times average where I go through things that interest me.

Previous relevant experience: None that would be of interst since alot of guys here has admin powers over a server.

What skills you would bring to the team/Why you'd be a good Moderator: I do know how to keep myself to a neutral point of view I feel I can see something from both side of view. I dont feel that I have any sorts of huge relationships to any of the users on this forum that makes me better as a neutral part. I feel I am not the one that just jumps on the train, but i rather stay out to observe.

Why you want to be a moderator: To give something back in my own way.

Thanks for the opportunity

I found this sentence quite funny and since this is a war game forum I will put it here. No offense to the french just a good laugh.

Length of time on forums: Joined on the 28th of Feb' 2008.

Rough "daily browsing time": Generally over an hour a day, 2 when theirs been a lot posted :) . Some day's i may browse for less, others for more but i can consistantly put time in and I can easily increase my viewing time as needed.

Previous relevant experience: Administrating for the UKWF for several months, and also reply to any posts on our feedback thread. Link. Have been playing for PR for a fair amount of time now so do know most of the In's and outs of the games. Finally, I've also done Moderation work for the PRL.

What skills you would bring to the team/Why you'd be a good Moderator:
Well i am able to browse through the forums regularly and i can quickly read and respond to new posts/threads made. I can offer an impartial and fair judgement on any situation that may arise, and in the event of me making a mistake, i will take blame where blame is due. Any job I have been given in any type of gaming situation i do take seriosuly and will act up on it as if it was a paid for, -"Real" (for want of a better word) job.

Why you want to be a moderator:
I've played and enjoyed Project Reality for a while know, and with a lot of free time on my hands I'm always looking for a way to help improve the experience of the community as a whole.. Through all my Administrating and R-Com work I've never seen my position as a way to better myself but as having the power to make everyone else have a greater experience and that's what i would hope to do as a Moderator.

Cheers,

Shavid.

Rough "daily browing time": Anywhere from 1-3 hours. Sometimes more when really good discussions are going on.

Previous relevant experience: Moderator at a private forum (Next Gen Gamerz), server moderator for a few mods, various leadership opportunities

What skills you would bring to the team/Why you'd be a good Moderator: I am Generally tolerant of nubishness in new members. I've been around a good while, made some mistakes (I own up to my less than perfect record), and have seen all sorts of things come through the forum. I bring good communication skills, search abilities, and good use of BBCode.

Why you want to be a moderator:
So that you guys have another person on hand to keep things orderly, as usual. Also, I feel it's time I started doing something for my favorite mod community.

  • Age: 20 years
  • Length of time on forums: Join date: May 2008
  • Rough "daily browsing time": 1-5 hours
  • Previous relevant experience: Former Moderator for Project Reality
  • What skills you would bring to the team/Why you'd be a good Moderator: I am an NA member in college who's schedule allows me to be on the forums during times when most others are at work or school on several days a week. I have fairly extensive knowledge on topics that have been resuggested and I know how to use the search function competently enough to locate any topics that may have come before a current one, if that is the case. I bring a "Rule of Law" approach to moderating, following what is set out by the rules as written to the letter. Additionally my previous experience means that I am familiar with PR moderating systems and I believe that given my history with the MOD team I can bring a more refined approach than originally shown.
  • Why you want to be a moderator: I love and enjoy Project Reality and want to give something back to the community. I feel that as a moderator I can put my skills to use making at least the forum side of the community a more organized and rule abiding place. That and I want to use my MOD sig again. ;-)

Rough "daily browsing time": Normal school day ~ 1.5 hours, Weekend/Holiday ~2.5 hours

Previous relevant experience: Moderator over at ATK Community website (general gaming community) as well as being fairly high up in the responsibilities list for them, admin on the PRT forums, moderator on boards set up geared at the new Google Chrome OS

What skills you would bring to the team/Why you'd be a good Moderator: (Read post-script below for some clarification) I feel that when put in a position of power I am able to view the situations from a much higher level and make a clear and informed decision, and I am able to communicate effectively with other members of a team to ensure that the tasks are done quickly and effectively.

I also have a wide knowledge of how vBulletin forums work from the perspective of having experience with the many tools and add-ons that can be used with vB and how the moderation aspect is used in these (For example blogs, file hosting and image hosting)

Why you want to be a moderator: I get a feeling of self pride when I am able to contribute and help a community so I hope to expand in my contributions to PR.

PS: I am aware that the incident the other day may hinder my chances at this, however please take into consideration that that was a one off and I came clean after and apologised to those involved quickly after I realised what I had actually done. That, plus it takes a lot of personal insult for me to act like that.
