Make it yourself?

Really though I doubt that this would have much application in-game and the handheld mortar isn't even working yet. Would be a long way to go to get this in and tbh im not so sure it would be worth the effort.

If you make it yourself and its good it might be used. It's happened in the past.

But Mortars are a touch and go subject at the moment. If you have the spare time and ability I say make it and when PR has a need for it, put it forward. Doesn't hurt to try.

Edit, I wouldn't use the M106, That's a tad bit outdated, I recommend looking up the Stryker mortar variant.

The Stryker mortar carrier variant (M1129) has been suggested before, and I think the subject of mortar carriers in general has come up here, but I'll leave it up to the mods as to whether or not to lock the topic, as it's one that doesn't come up often in my memory.

Just FYI. the M106s have been converted to M1064s with the introduction of the M120/M121 120mm mortar in the mid to late 1990s; they replaced the M30 4.2 inch (107mm) mortar. The M113-based 81mm mortar carriers are also long-gone. The Stryker M1129 variant mounts the M121 with a second, lighter mortar (81mm if battalion level unit or 60mm if company level unit) being carried for dismount use. The M1064s are in the heavy brigades (Bradley and Abrams) and the Strykers are, of course, in the Stryker interim/medium brigades.

Stryker has a mortar carrier version doesn't it? That might be less work to modify than an entirely new model.

But as Rudd says, jumping the gun a bit and I sense a resuggest.

in 0.9 there should be mortars (or 1.0 maybe)

so maybe there will be Stryker with Mortar launcher. M106/M113 are old vehicles from vietnam war. and stryker is newer vehicle. so maybe devs should make Mortar Stryker

From what I recall, they never quite managed to get arcing rounds to work.

Its not just arcing the rounds that would need to be done its the entire animation work both 3p and 1p, the flight characteristics, the way it would be represented in-game and how it would be used either in a team or individually. Really all they've got atm is the model afaik.

It's therefore wrong to presume that it will be in 0.9, although never say never.

The IDF still use em so they could have it then you'd have to make the stryker version then the bulldog version it seems like a lot of work.

I always was a huge fan of player controlled artillery (mobile or not) but... if you make a new vehicle for one faction let's say US Army and put it on the map like Kashan then you also need to make something similar for the MEC... and eventually any other factions with that kind of vehicles on other maps (not to mention about additional work for community factions in the future).... that's a lot of work so let's see how the stationary mortar works out first before thinking about new vehicles ;)

Yes, the M113A3 is still in use today by the US Army as a mortar carrier (M1064 mentioned earlier), engineer squad vehicle and in utility roles (like armored ambulance) in the heavy brigades. An upgraded and stretched version, the MTVL (aka M113A4 or M113A3+), is used by the Canadian Forces.

Yeah, i read an article about a dev that recently finished up a mortar model. But it won't be out for a LONG time.

Idea is to have it as a stationary for forward bases.
I think making it to mobile will make the vehicle a might spam-mobile. Mortaring the hell out of some poor outpost :P
