3 round burst

Post by the_ganman »

Just wondering why was the US weapons chosen to have only single or triple burst unlike all the other weapons in the game? I realy think adding full auto capability would make it more realistic cause the M4 being used are not in RL limited to 3 round burst

Yes the M4 is limited to semi and burst, the M4A1 is full auto.

Actually, yes they are. The M4 and M16 variants issued to the basic combat soldiers of the USMC and US Army are the burst fire variants and the M4A1 is only available to special forces which PR does not depict.

Also this has been suggested before and is not in the suggestions forum.

to extend on what outlaws has said.

the US army use the m4 which is semi - burst
US special forces use m4a1 which is semi - full.

M4A1

The M4A1 carbine is a fully-automatic variant of the basic M4 carbine intended for special operations use. The M4A1 has a "S-1-F" (safe/semi-automatic/fully automatic) trigger group, while the M4 has a "S-1-3" (safe/semi-automatic/3-round burst) trigger group

Not to be an "***" or anything but i'm starting to grow a little bit tired of so many people asking why the M4 is not Fully automatic.

Maybe a Sticky post should do the thing?

A) The US military uses rifles that are designed for marksmanship, not blasting away and hoping to hit something. a 3 round burst puts 3 very accurate rounds downrange. its an extremely effective firing mode.

B) The M4 is Semi and 3 round burst. the M4A1 is semi and auto. yes there is a difference and it does matter. Plus most M4s deployed right now are the M4, with the 3 round burst fire select.

Don't count my words as true on this one, im not Bob_Marley ;)
But I recall that the M16A1 (Nam era) was a fully automatic assault rifle, with single and auto firing modes. However, put a **** load of scared soldiers in a hazardous and hostile environment with a **** load of automatic weapons and you got yourself one, very long ammo receipt.

From the few vids I could find on soldiers on the ground during the Vietnam war, soldiers would generally appear to be blasting their way through full magazines in full auto.
Dont take my word for it! Requesting rienforcements(Bob), over!

Dw Mong mate, you're absolutely right. Burst fire was specifically developed for the M16 because the ammo bill was so massive during Vietnam.

In theory, of course. All you have to do is swap out the trigger mechanism. In reality, the only people who would have M16A4s would be in the USMC, the only armorer a Marine could take his M16A4 to would be a USMC armorer, who would not have permission to give a Marine a full-auto trigger group.

IIRC, it is also illegal for a Marine to buy a trigger group from the States or whatever and put it in themself. I don't think they are even allowed to take apart their lower receiver (this last part is from a comic-magazine issued during Vietnam about maintaining the M16, titled "Sweet 16." Rules/regulations may have changed since then)

Now i believe, during the vietnam era, it was something like 200 000 rounds fired for 1 kill durring ww1 it was less then 5000 per 1 kill. Oh by the way the Sniper pf the the americain forces had ~ a 2 shots for 1 kill ratio

The way i play PR i feel like i should be getting the full auto Special forces version :)

It can, you simply put an A3 or A1 lower on it. But then it becomes a Colt R0901 (because I'm not sure what term FN, who actually make the weapons, use for that particular varation on the AR-15 theme) rather than an M16A4. As far as I am aware the combination of a 20" barrel, Safe-Semi-Auto fire selector, fixed stock and flat top reciver has never been type classifed by the US Armed forces.
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

i totally feel the same way. too many people suggesting things after doing zero research.

i mean the mod is called project reality, its centered on trying to be as realistic as possible, does anyone really think the DEVs arent doing their homework before they add things to the mod?
