Unacceptable PR performance...
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 2.66Ghz OC: 3.5Ghz
Memory: 4GB Mushkin DDR2 RAM OC: 840Mhz 5-4-4-12
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar 160GB 7200RPM Storage, and Western Digital VelociRaptor 150GB 10,000RPM Gaming
Video Card: nVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB OC: 675Mhz/2Ghz
Monitor: 17" Dell @ 1280x1024x60hz & 19" Samsung SyncMaster 997DF @ 1280x1024x60hz (Main is the Dell)
Sound Card: Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio
Operating System: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3
Motherboard: ASUS P5N32-E SLi 680i
Ok, so I can play vanilla BF2 at well over 100fps constant (infact I use game.lockfps 0 to get even more...) this is at all high settings, 8x AA, 1280x1024x60hz.
Project Reality manages to look less... impressive... and perform at nearly half the number of frames Vanilla BF2 has. As low as 55 or so in some areas. This is on servers with less than a 100 ping, and almost a constant 28+ players on either team.
Am I crazy is is this wrong? Is there some trick I missed where you have to reset your graphics settings for PR after you've installed it over BF2?
An advance thank you for anyone who gives any insight.

Can't give you any tips but alot of people are playing this at max without any problems, including myself. PR demands quite more than vanilla, but if you can play that on high, your rig should be able to manage PR.

since you got 4 gigs of RAM, get the memory fixed Bf2.exe http://realitymodfiles.com/ancient/BF2MemoryPatch.zip
it game me more fps and stopped my ctds.

Re: Unacceptable PR performance...
Exactly.
I can understand a bit of FPS loss with the whole mod/"real" game transitions that take place, but to loose half almost constantly? That's a bit ridiculous.
I'm thinking of setting my graphics down to low, then getting into a game, back to high, and joining another game to see if shocking it like that has any effect...
*EDIT*
To the above gentleman, I just downloaded and placed the fixed .Exe into my folder about 30 seconds ago =D. Haven't tested yet, but looking forward to seeing good results.
I'll keep ya'll posted.

Re: Unacceptable PR performance...
Project Reality does not have the same system requirements as BF2, they are redefined in the manual I believe.
Also, 55 FPS isn't low at all, considering you aren't going to see a difference between 60 - 100 FPS because your monitor has a 60 Hz refresh rate. Its not like you need 100 FPS in order to run the game smoothly.

Re: Unacceptable PR performance...
1, I already addressed that yes; Project Reality has a different set of system requirements completely separate from that of BF2. But, any person who's spent longer than 20m using total conversion mods can tell you the original games' recommended specifications are a really close call to the mods recommended.
2, 55FPS is low. The difference between 60 and 100 is huge. Yes, the monitor is only showing 60fps, but going from 55 to 45 is a massive kick in the balls, yet going from 100 to 85, even 75, or even 70 has no effect on the game being as smooth as ice.
More is always better.

Re: Unacceptable PR performance...
This is not the case at all digital, as this mod uses completely different statics and textures plus the maps are ALOT bigger in comparison... Id say 55 FPS is not unacceptable to play at, considering the game is a lot slower paced than nilla`digitaL.braVo wrote: But, any person who's spent longer than 20m using total conversion mods can tell you the original games' recommended specifications are a really close call to the mods recommended.

Re: Unacceptable PR performance...
May be true, but pound for pound my machine should be more than capable of playing this game at well over 60FPS as the absolute low.
Currently, I have the "fixed" .exe file for BF2, and have cleared the cache but have not gone online into a server to test my FPS. In the training server I fiddled around in I had 130FPS as my absolute low.

digital, I have a E6750@ 3.6Ghz in this machine, with 8GB of RAM and a GTX 260 and I struggle to keep my FPS over 60 on some maps, its the absolute size of the map, and the amount of objects and statics etc that change this out from vBF2.
Also, 8x AA is an absolute waste of time in this game, 2x is probably the best your going to notice on the bf2 engine

Based on 8GB of RAM I bet you're running Vista.

Re: Unacceptable PR performance...
Robbi, what resolution are you running? Your system should not be dipping in FPS like that. Do you have other stuff going on in the background? I am baffled as to why your system is losing FPS on some maps...
@ digital... Your specs look fine. There are so many things that could be handicapping performance as I'm sure you know. Heat issue maybe? Resource hungry background programs? Power supply failing slowly? If you can't narrow it down, then a completely fresh re-install may be in order. Keep us posted. I hope we can pinpoint the issue.

Re: Unacceptable PR performance...
Heat I could see, it's ungodly hot in my room just about... always. But my PC is very clear when it doesn't like how warm it is. About as clear as an auto-reboot gets, lol.
Resource hungry background program it shouldn't be. I only run a few chat programs which each use less than 10~20MB a piece, and hardly any CPU time, and WinAMP is always stopped and minimized when not playing.
Failing power supply would make itself apparent in many other games. So far, Project Reality is the only one that makes me go: "This is not right."

Re: Unacceptable PR performance...
Most other mods have about the same view distance as vanilla, same goes for the mapsize. PR has large maps, 4 to even 16 sq km maps, vanilla doesn't even come close.`digitaL.braVo wrote:1, I already addressed that yes; Project Reality has a different set of system requirements completely separate from that of BF2. Most mods may have about the same requirements as vanilla, but PR really isn't comparable.
Also, "back in the days", people didn't really use to play at such high resolutions like they do now, so you can't expect the "recommended requirements" from 4 years ago to give you the same results like in vanilla. PR really pushes the engine (also due to the fact that many people have more powerful pc's than back then), so recommended requirements are way higher than what they used to be.
Don't know how to get your fps higher, but try lowering AA to 4x instead of 8x. Doesn't really matter in how it looks really.
2x or 4x is is different though, 4x is much better. But 8x is unnecessary. Try it, see if it works.
And the fixed bf2.exe, using more than 2gb of ram should help a lot. I know it helped me
You really don't notice anything higher than 80. And I'm sure my example of "80" is pretty high already, but let's not go there`digitaL.braVo wrote:More is always better.

Re: Unacceptable PR performance...
All these (and other) items:
1.Bigger maps
2.More in game objects (weapons, kits, statics, assets, buildings, etc)
3.Higher view distance
4.More factions
would raise the hardware requirements for any game/mod

Watch the language strickt, let's not turn this into a flame war.
Have you tried different ForceWare drivers for your 8800?

Based on the fact that Im actually using windows 7, not Vista, and to be honest mate I dont understand what your problem is, as I was mearly pointing out the comparison of machines by stating that FPS drops are more likely to be Map optimizartion rather than machine lag/hardware deficiency, but you obviously know it all so I'll leave you to it.`digitaL.braVo wrote:Based on 8GB of RAM I bet you're running Vista.

Quite frankly pound for pound I wouldnt compare my machine to yours, as their is no comparison at all, but that is not what I was hoping to achieve here ^^

Re: Unacceptable PR performance...
No matter how good the system, it will struggle with un-optimized maps, for instance Fallujah used to run badly and only got a god constant FPS with an OCed i7 machine and a GTX295, however now it's a lot better after tweaks and can be run easily on high for people with 8800GT's etc.
No need to apologise strickt, especially when you're in the right, just trying to prevent a flame-war here

Re: Unacceptable PR performance...
I used to play with FPS hovering around the 20/30 mark on all maps on low settings, so really I think you are being a tad demanding especially seeing as your eyes can't even see the difference above 60fps.
My specs now are here and I get a constant 100fps on high on all maps with the exception of Korengal and Fallujah. So basically if your machine can't handle it upgrade, PR is a demanding game and will continue to become more so.
