Project Reality needs British Voice Talent

Post by eggman »

Hey Folks,

Project Reality is looking for voice talent to add in the British Forces voice overs for Project Reality v1.0.

We will need one person per role with appropriate British accent to fill the following roles:
- Commander
- Grunt
- Squad Leader

This will NOT be a few voice overs... there are over 100 voice overs we need for each role. So this will take up a chunk of your time.

What will this involve?
You will need to be self sufficient in getting this done. You will need to record your own voice over recordings for your role in the correct format and submit them to Project Reality. There will be no "scripts" for this, you'll be asked to listen to the BF2 sounds, then record your own version of it for every voice over sound in BF2.

You can take *some* liberties by making the script "british" but you cannot alter the intended content of the messages. By this I mean you can substitute the word "bollocks" for "awww gee". Just don't plan to take any liberties that would confuse the intent of the voice over message.

No obscene profanities please, we have a mixed age group audience.

How do I audition?
Please note that you will need some organisational abilities as wel as some basic sound tool capabilities in order to fill one of these roles.

First Step:
Please post into this thread expressing your interest, ask any clarifying questions and acknowledge you understand the audition process.

Second Step:
As an audition, you will be asked to prepare and submit 5 samples of recordings of existing BF2 voice overs. Although you can audition for all 3 roles, we will only be using 1 voice over "actor" for each role.

Third Step:
Record 5 samples, get them hosted and post links to them in this thread. The paths to the files in your BF2 install dir are listed below. Easiest thing is to unzip the common_client.zip, then listen to the sounds and then record your own.

The following are the files we would like submitted as an audition:

Commanders:
Battlefield2Install\mods\bf2\Common_client\Sound\english\Commander\Filter
COMMSL_COMRADIO_supplydropavailable.ogg
COMMSL_COMORDERS_movetothispos.ogg
PLAYER_SPOTTED_C_enemyforcesspotted.ogg
COMMSL_COMMANDER_newcommander_alt.ogg
COMMSL_SUPPLIES_suprequestdenied_alt.ogg

Squad Leaders:
Battlefield2Install\mods\bf2\Common_client\Sound\english\Squadleader\Filter
AUTO_MOODGP_SL_sendingtargetcoordinates.ogg
COMSL_BRIDGES_bridgedestroyed_alt.ogg
PLAYER_CONFIRM_SL_sorry_alt.ogg
COMMSL_SLORDERS_attackthispos_alt.ogg
PLAYER_CONFIRM_SL_rogerthat.ogg

Grunts:
Battlefield2Install\mods\bf2\Common_client\Sound\english\Grunt\Filter
PLAYER_REQUEST_TM_requestartillery.ogg
PLAYER_SPOTTED_TM_enemycarspotted.ogg
PLAYER_TACTICS_TM_bailout_alt.ogg
PLAYER_TACTICS_TM_retreat_alt.ogg
PLAYER_REQUEST_TM_requestmedic.ogg

IMPORTANT NOTE:
The sound files MUST have the same filename as the original BF2 sound files.

Audacity can also convert and open .oog files.

shame I lost my RP accent then, could have done the officer ones, my yorkshire accent just won't cut it now. I'd ask my little bro (RA captain) but it's probably too much time for him.

good job this is a decent british dev team and you arent going to insist on jason strathans!

pls record the sound "dry" and without all possible background noise.
dont do some filtering or something for the recording. the PR team need the sounds original "as it is" to have all possibilitys to make what it should sound like.
use every time the same distance to the mic.
try to avoid poping. speak not direktly in the mic.
try to speak slow for a better understanding. to make it faster is not the big problem now a days..

just my 2 cents.. ;)

The word "bollocks" is a highly flexible word, and not necessarily used to cuss.
i.e "The dogs bollocks"

It's our favourite word, can you consider including it?

Project Reality right.......

I demand the Engineer be scottish. Follow the trend of every other game.
And please dont make them "Old" English like SF, I really dont want to hear the words "Chap" and "Old boy"

Well, when reading reviews for Special Forces, some people were extremely annoyed that the accent was Posh (Posh is an adjective, with a dictionary meaning of "smart or fashionable[1]", "elegant, stylishly luxurious[2]", "spruced up, smart or polished[3]". - Wikipedia).

In otherwords, it's easier to imagine the SF SAS saying, "Jolly ho, have a cup o' tea," as opposed to the majority of British population. Some Englishmen in my clan say it's as annoying as hell to listen to people speak in that accent. The vowels are extremely exaggerated, like you're stuck up or something. So when you're recording, try to not exaggerate those vowels too much.
