I suggest that the traditioinal vbf2 squad leader markers be removed. They are rather unrealistic and make it way to easy to spot out hostiles. By removing them, teamwork and communication becomes a more important part of squad leading and the game can plays out alot slower. (small edit: This would also stop all that shooting through the fog or at attack markers bs that pilots like to do so often. As it is air assets are allready overpowered anyway)
With that in mind, I also suggest that SLs be given the ability to place enemy infantry, FB, and armor markers on the map similar to those that the commander gets. This will help make it easier to recover from the lack of traditional attack and observer markers. It would also stimulate inter-squad coordination and realism as Squads would know more or less where the front line is. This would also be much more efficient for communications when calling in CAS strikes or Armor support. Instead of going through the long and time consuming grid references. one SL could simply say, "requesting CAS south of bunkers on marked armor".
Squad leaders would ofcourse be able to delete their own markers and when the squad disbands, all the squad's markers will dissapear. Certain markers could be distinguished by other teammates by putting the Squad number of the SL on the marker image.
In all, I think these amends would greatly increase the team-wide teamwork and coordination. Please take them into consideration.

This would be very nice. It would also be great if the commander can then select the Squad from the list in the left of Command screen and see their markers. Possibly make them show up Green to show squad placed so that he can reveal them to the whole team. Else you'll get a load of spammed markers

Re: Squad Leader marker changes
that is actually probably because its a resuggestion (though I agree with removing 3d markers)

I think the SL marker on the map thing you are talking about is also a hardcoded suggestion.

Re: Squad Leader marker changes
While I think that the markers should be removed from the 3D map, I definitely think they should stay on the actual map, though not necessarily needing the 'contact' markers (although they could for sure be added to the current arsenal of markers).
This would help pilots still find their targets especially on kashan where there isn't a lot of terrain to distinguish from to locate the target, while not giving them a 'look directly here, magic!' marker. They would just have to look at their map during the run and try to account for where they will be looking or to descend a little sooner to get their bearings and then find the target.
With the markers still actually being on the map, though, it would allow a member of a squad to take a quick peek at the map to see the route they are headed and their destination (the move marker, of course). A defend marker on friendlies on the map would require the squad to check their maps to tell where the squad is and where they should contain their fire to in relation to the actual world in front of them.
All in all, though, a great idea (edit: even if it is a resuggestion, I don't care, I think it is needed, really.)

well actually, i read somewhere that they kept this in because in real life you could just point to a position out to your teammate...which u can't do thanks to the BF2 engine.

I don't know about removing the marker completely but maybe removing it from the actual game and keep it on the map would be a good start. I think if you remove it too many people will complain and they will just put it back in.
Personally if you keep it on the map im fine with it cause it only takes 1-2 seconds to open your map and see where the marker is.

Remember, air assets are "overpowered" IRL. And the "fog" in PR is unrealistic ofc, but that is nothin to do about. I dont see any problems with people shooting through the fog.google wrote: (small edit: This would also stop all that shooting through the fog or at attack markers bs that pilots like to do so often. I like much of you sugg, but pointing out targets, and finding the range in PR is kinda hard alleready, so Im against removing markers.
