Gauging Damage
It's difficult to know how much health you have in PR; there's no surefire way to do it realistically, though, unless you want to completely model a character from the first-person perspective. So how do we tell how much damage we've taken? Below are possibilites.
1. We can have a small circle near the ammunition counter. It's white when you first spawn, indicating you are at perfect condition. As you take damage, it slowly turns red ever so slightly until it's at full red (255 0 0), at which case the person dies. The problem? It's not likely you'll see a small circle on your cornea telling you how bad your hurt.
2. We can have the screen get darker as a person gets shot, much like losing consciousness. It's harder to concentrate on your surroundings while you're injured, so it's a realistic implementation; you will have a harder time aiming while your screen is getting darker as you bleed to death and lose consciousness. When you are "Critically Wounded", you can just barely see, your view almost entirely darkened. The problem? Well, there isn't really much of one. The only thing I can think of is a glitch that might happen, such as still having the full-on blackness after you spawn.
Also, I had an idea... when you get shot in the head, your deathcam should have a little blood on it, don't you think? That way a person who got sniped would know that someone got a lucky snipe shot at them while they were sprinting.

I actually kinda like this idea... needs some tweaks2. We can have the screen get darker as a person gets shot, much like losing consciousness. It could be done with blur... tinnitus gives the same effect, so the blur seems like a working idea. But in reality, it could be too much of an impediment... when someone gets shot in the leg, the only reason that their eyes are going to blur up is when they're crying.
People squint in pain, which slightly darkens your view (eyelashes own).

Yeah, but that's why it should be done slightly. Like I said, it's hard to concentrate when you're injured, so if you've been bleeding out for the past two minutes, you'll most likely be losing consciousness and worrying about the wound too much to realize what's going on around you.

Also slight effects for being shot on different locations of body, not perfectly realistic but a lil bit.
For example
- if you get shot to leg, you cant run
- or if you get shot to hands, you cant aim so well, or its slower, or accuracy suffers
- head is dead like it is now.
- middle body higher chance for bleed or something.
I dont know if all of these is possible for BF2 but at least the amount of damage taken from getting hit, depends where you was shot.

Well, getting shot in the upper arm completely disables the arm, as the muscles are ripped. Getting shot in the rear of the lower leg doesn't slow someone down; it almost completely immobilizes them. The same rule applies there as it does for getting shot in the arm. I just wish that getting killed by a headshot actually made them DIE, instead of going to the critically wounded phase.

This is a very very very good idea. I had seen another mod do this I think (i forgot which one though) so I know its 100 percent attemptable... I like the idea of the screen getting darker, as it would really keep people from doing stupid tactical maneouvers which would realisticly get themselves and their squad killed. So yes, this is a very good idea, and I would support it if it was approached cautiously.

I belive thats way to complex for the BF2 engine, good idea though.Deer wrote:Also slight effects for being shot on different locations of body, not perfectly realistic but a lil bit.

Its not that hard to tell how hurt you are. 1 hit > your neer 50% health, 2 hits > criticly wonded, 3 hits > your dead, 1 hit to the head > your dead.
You should always look at it like that, if you get shot find a medic to bring you health back up.
Theres also a topic on this already.

Then why does the Army still make flak jackets? Your argument doesn't make sense.Wonder wrote:IMHO If you get shot anywhere you're out of the action! Both wounded and KIAs are considered casualties in combat.

Because an injured soldier is better than a dead soldier. If you're wearing protection when you take a bullet at least you'll recover faster.
I agree with Eden, if you've been shot, you shouldn't be thinking "Have I got enough health to carry on ramboing or should I see a Doctor?", you should be thinking "Damnit, I'm hit! Medic!". The only change needed here is an alternative to the blood effects to make it more obvious you're bleeding, but that's coming soon anyway.
