Moderation feedback

Post by Dunehunter »

Hello everyone. There should be an announcement about the applications in the near future, but in the meantime, I've come to ask you lot for help again. Outsourcing rules!

Here's the basic idea for this thread: what do you think of the way the forums are moderated? What do you think would help make these forums a better place? This thread is -not- for bitching/whining/unconstructive criticism/personal attacks. It will be watched closely by the moderators, and any of the posts mentioned above can result in infractions. If you don't feel like posting your feedback/suggestions in this thread, you can pm me. However, pms will be moderated the same way as this thread.

[R-MOD]Jigsaw] I am drunk. I decided to come home early because I can''t realy seea nyithng. I hthknk i madea bad choicce. :|

I wouldn't mind seeing a few rules or infraction points given out to people replying to new members simply saying "RTFM", but otherwise I've not got much feedback at the moment.

I find that forum members can sometimes be too harsh on new players, and that those posts aren't often moderated, but that's just me.

I really agree with you on that. This community already has a negative view as "elitist" and the attitude towards new players really need to change. This would be a good step towards that.

I agree 100%

Because I know this will happen I do not ask as many questions as i want to. I do search the community and sometimes can't find the answer. Oh Well, I would post more here about this now but dont want to be called a noob :)

agreed. people are not entitled to call other gamers names, or demand anything from other community members. Apart from putting people off the forums and the game, those comments can be hurtfull. This includes forum members spamming "resuggestion". Only moderators should be allowed inform forum members that it is a resuggestion from now on.

one other thing. this may sound odd, but i dont like it when people spam a negetive thread when a person is being honust. if a person decides to complain, he should be fully within his rights to complain. at least complainers only do it once or twice. The flamers (who are usually long term forum members) are more repetitive than the people they are flaming in my opinion. and i think it would be cool if the moderators could discourage it.

I think there is a way to make ur moderation more effective and less laboursome

Auto Reply to Suggestion threads (and maybe tech support threads as well)

Fact is people aren't reading the stickies, there are alot of them and people can't be bothered anyway.

SO!

Autoreply.

Whenever a thread is made in teh suggestion or the tech support section by ANYONE, it will automatically have a 2nd post saying
"This is an automatic post to ensure you have posted all the relevant information/have checked the *** thread *link*, and searched *picture of search function*

if the suggestion is original, the PR team thanks you for it

Regards PRBot :D "

That would help first time posters to get their act together early without anyone being inclined to be rude or unhelpful.

I like the above autopost for second post reminding them to search and check *** thread (although the stickies above already say to do so, we know how often new members read stickies).

I don't think people that post 'already suggested' with a link are doing bad, heck it saves the mod from doing so as long as the tone is one of being informative and can also show past comments. I do think a random member telling the person to search is unnecessary, since linking the thread shows that they missed it already.

Is there a word filter on here we could add 'fastropes' to? I'd like it replaced with 'fastropes (are not an original idea)'. :-D

The problem with stickies is that there are way too many of them. 11 in this forum section.

Some of them could be joined together I guess, or possibly removed.

or - can't you have two kinds of stickies? Announcements and "normal" stickies? With the forum rules etc being an announcement, and stuff like PR2 FAQ or Mumble informations as normal sticky?

I think that something like that would be pointless in moderating. If someone thinks that new players are noobs and no good for the game then ther is no reason to stop them from saying that. It's not purposefully insulting it's just what they believe.

I'm in agreement with as posted. Coming down harder on guys who bash newbies would be nice and go a long way towards erasing the "elitist" title that is sometimes associated with our community.

Well we all know what I'm going to say. I feel the Moderators need to be a forceful presence in the Suggestions Forums. Resuggests should be targeted and locked with ruthless efficiency, for there is no greater sin than to resuggest. :P

maybe MAYBE infractions to people who say they searched, but they found something, and the post anyways. Or maybe to people who say they searched, but then when we search, we find what they're looking for.

Get rid of more annoying posts that just say '+1 to this idea, I agree' Its annoying having to go through page after page of useless posts like that add nothing constructive to the thread.

When a thread gets out of hand with certain people, it really bugs me that the whole community(or the small fraction of the community that actually reads the News forum) have to have the thread locked. Rather than locking and giving an infraction to said people, just make the infraction more harsh.

But at the same time, don't lock threads where people aren't really stepping out of line, just having a discussion which is slightly off topic. Conversations by their very nature don't stick to the original topic, if you talk to a random person, by the end of the chat, you won't be talking about the same thing, for example.

So what I'm saying is, be harsher on the guys who are just trolling, but don't lock the threads as this punishes the whole community rather than just the guys who were acting like tits, as well as not being so itchy on the locky finger, let discussions flow and not have to stick so rigidly to the topic as long as it isn't a flame war.

Grottim, just because you have played PR for X amount of years/months/days, does not make you a better person, therefore, if you insult someone, you should not be given any special treatment because the person you insulted hasn't played PR. The elitist attitude needs to stop, and if it means temp banning an old member so a new member can actually asks questions so can learn the game, then I'm absolutely fine with it.

So this thread is to ask what people think of the way the forum is moderated, but if you complain about how it is moderated, you will receive an infraction.

That pretty much sums up the moderation of the PR forums.

90% of the moderation is not needed, and is simply moderation for the sake of it. Not all moderators do this, but some do.

No. But while "the moderation is shitty!!!" would not be tolerated, "I think there is too much moderation going on, most of it is not needed in my opinion" would. I've never got an infraction, and I've been a bit annoying at times I'm sure.

Personally, one of things I have noticed, its the over zealous moderation of server feedback threads. Obvioulsy I understand the need to prevent slagging matches and individual ban complaints taking over threads. But at the same time I often feel like any legitimate criticism is met with the response of 'take it to their forums.'

Often these are not requests for the ban to be removed, but complaints about the way in which the ban/kick was administered in the first place. I feel that these threads are often open only to the positive only, and any negative feed back is supressed.

Personally, I feel you should have to take the rough with the smooth, if you opt to have a public feedback thread, and as long as the feedback is not just a rant it should be allowed to stand. I feel this is particularly important as many [R-whatevers] are involved with the administration of several PR servers.

Colonelcool concurs 125%.

:cussing:

One more thing, people swearing in posts. While I understand that the forum should be kept clean of abusive language, why not just put a language filter on that stops most swearing instead of just editing peoples posts and warning them for it. Its almost like you are baiting people into it just to warn them.
