Sunglasses for bluFOR?

Post by SkaterCrush »

From what I've seen, quite a few (80%+) military personnel (at least for the US) seem to like to wear sunglasses during daytime operations. It wouldn't be too hard seeing as there was a model for the British SF guy and all you would have to do is re-texture it and put it on all (some/most) of the US troops at least. Sure its purely cosmetic, but it would make everyone a lot cooler  and it would show PR's appreciation of detail.

The "all you have to do"-part takes quite some work ;) . The glasses should then be part of the kit geometry.

It's not hollywood, it's quite realistic.

As far as I am aware, it's part of the kit that everyone has to wear. Atleast it's mandatory for those in a Stryker brigade. When there's loads of stuff around, you want to be sure that your eyes are protected ;)

Eh well I'm not a gamer not a modeler :) I mean it doesn't seem like much work

Yes, but it is ;) When it comes to changing stuff in BF2, simply assume that'll it be a lot of work, even if it's "just" taking the sunglasses off one guy and putting them on other models.

This is right, at least in US Army and Marines soldiers must wear goggles or sunglasses that passes ANSI Z87.1 requirements for impact protection. They offer great protection for eyes.

Would be great to see these added into kit geometries.

The question is...would Insurgents get them if they take the kit? That would be awesome

maybe the sunglasses should work for the player, if possible, making the screen a little darker

There was a mod including something like this, you pressed 7 to turn them on of off like the way night vision goggles work .

Well, they wouldn't have to be sunglasses, though that would be cool.

Arn't they eye protection goggles/glasse rather than sunglasses?
Like, to stop dust, dirt and stones hitting the soldiers in the eyes.
Either way some of the protective glasses look like sunglasses so it's not a huge thing.

+1 for the googles.
-1 for the glasses. Say NAY to Holywood.

Should have a combination between full seal goggles and ballistic sun glasses. In the US Army most common i seen are ESS land ops or ESS vehicle ops. It's got interchanable lenses for clear or tinted :)

would be a cool feature

The British Army's Automatic Rifleman has tinted ballistic goggles, so they are kind of already in game.
And I suppose adding more of those isn't a bad thing; it would probably be nice to kind of give some 'different features' in the faces of soldiers.

It just comes down to choosing what kits get tinted or clear goggles.

IMO, Desert-Camo crewman should definitely have tinted goggles, whereas Forest-Camo crewman could have either.
Desert-Camo infantry should have a mix, but I would assume that more of them would have tinted goggles... Officers should probably have tinted ones, for sure, and medics might be best off with the goggles being clear or up on their heads. ARs should probably have tinted as well.

All aesthetic stuff, but it would just kind of add to the look of US soldiers, and I'm sure british soldiers could get a few more where necessary, not to mention other BluFor soldiers.

I'm not talking about goggles. I wouldn't suggest getting goggles because they are ugly as ****. Sunglasses are cool and I'd reckon more soldiers wear sunglasses than goggles, because I see numerous pics with US soldiers wearing sunglasses AND having their goggles around their helmet.
