How close to real combat do you think PR is?
Greetings everyone!!
Just found out about PR and have been playing it for the last few days, its an awesome game!
Having played a bit i was thinking about how accurately the game simulates being in real combat, there seems to be a pretty high attention to detail in terms of the technicalities, and i was wondering how successful you guys think the game is in actually recreating what it must be like to actually be in a combat situation.
Thought i would stick a post up to see what other think!

things like the rumble vest sound like a great idea, but i dunno, it seems to me kinda futile to attempt to recreate the physical aspects of combat.... its not like they will ever make a game where you actually get hurt when shot in the game, it probably wouldnt be that much fun
Its the mental side that i find quite interesting, the stress, the fear, the thrill. When i play with my 7.1 surround on in a dark room i sometimes jump out the seat when stuff goes on behind me, i find the immersive nature of the game fairly impressive.

Not even close.
I play PR for its fun, teamwork and less jumpy, arcadey gameplay.
However unfortunately, the weapons don't handle like they should, vehicles don't, players don't, player size is limited, atmosphere is lacking, etc etc.

PR is FULL of metaphors and compromises though, everything from engagement ranges to environment to supply chain. Kinda sickening how Americas Army gets used considering how far from true combat computer games must be, I imagine it to be an unbelievably stark contrast but for people that have been in combat playing these games no matter how realistic must be so different to real life that they might as well be playing Hello Kitty Cutie World.
Can you imagine if there was an ultra realism version if Insurgency mode? You'd spend half your time playing footy with the local kids or something.

It's as close as I am to banging Megan Fox.
Cmon, it's a game, not a milsim..last I checked. But closer than games like CoD4 obviously.

Ok then, so its obviously never going to be perfect.
But why do you think the goal is to make a realism mod at all if you are saying you are never going to get close anyway?
Not trying to just argue for the sake of it, but i think this is a really interesting topic, why do we bother making more and more games which we call realistic when we know we are so far away from the real thing?

no where near at all.
no game will ever be close and PR is not the most realistic of this "genre" either.

its comparative , its more "realistic" that vbf2 and other games but its nowhere near real combat, you just have to watch some youtube videos to find that out... but wait for the people on this forum who have been in combat to show a proper perspective.Frost-Duty wrote: But why do you think the goal is to make a realism mod at all if you are saying you are never going to get close anyway?

I would be very interested in hearing from people who have actually been in combat, they are probably the only ones who can truly make a comparison.
I guess part of the question would be to ask why we actually want games like PR which are supposedly realistic. As gamers what draws us to it??!
For me i guess its just the desire to try and find out what it is like. If i want to blow stuff up i will go and play unreal, but it adds something when u think there might be some authenticity behind the experience.

i dont play it for the "realistic" part, its just the "realistic" part encourages teamwork and cooperation between players.Frost-Duty wrote: I guess part of the question would be to ask why we actually want games like PR which are supposedly realistic. As gamers what draws us to it??!
the fact is you wont know what combat is like till you have been in it, but like i said im sure some one who has been in combat will come along soon and post.

On a 1 to 10 Scale, PR Gets a Flat 7.5 Hands down. for Realism of weapons and Up to date items but to compomise for proper gameplay it loses realism points.
Personally I don't care cause I like PR anyway

Re: How close to real combat do you think PR is?
It probably misses a bit of the "Piss on oneself" part of reality to even start to be comparable
(yes yes yes I know its hardcoded ... ^^)

Re: How close to real combat do you think PR is?
This is quite an intereting point, lots of people seem to judge the realism of these games.... yet i can never work out what they are basing their judgements on! Films seem to be the only connection most of us have with combat, and there is plenty of argument as to how realistic they are anyway.

depends what realism you mean as well, "technical realism" most people can have a good idea about, stuff like weapons used and vehicles used by nations etc. you dont have to be serving to know that stuff.

Re: How close to real combat do you think PR is?
Because most of us aren't going to go join the military, and combat is always held in a romantic view in society. PR takes us down this path farther than most games by stressing working together and with our team more than quick reflexes.
