Assault Nades

Post by hop_ic »

These nade lauchers are so unrealistic. The assault can shoot 2 feet in front of him and everyone else will die except for him. This is just total bull ****. If you throw a regular nade in front of you it will kill you.

it's a potent defense against support. but i agree that an explosion should kill/damage all in its radius.

Well if that's the case, if you miss your opponent by two feet, don't they still survive?

If I shoot a Grenade at my feet I die.... Did you mean maybee 2M? I think the frags in those suckers have a 5M fatality range.

In real life the grenades from a GL aren't as explosive as a hand grenade. If the guy lobbed a grenade at you from 2m away he would die. Increasing the splash damage to make people hurt when they use it close range is silly, because that means when guys like me use it like it's meant to be used from a range you'll get pissed off because it'll be taking out cars and the like.

The minimum range think may be able to be tweaked, although it's most likely an engine limitation and since it was implemented in 1.2 it's been buggy at close ranges. Sometimes it bounces, other times it blows up.

Either way, you shouldn't really be that close to somebody in a battle anyway, and even if you are you'd expect to die anyway, be it by a grenade, rifle or a knife. I guess it's annoying when you take a one hit grenade, but as a soldier you should be expecting the unexpected.

not a big fan of bounching it off walls thats what handgrenades are for. it should either be contact or timed not both.

*deletes rant about vanilla grenade lauchers*

Pretty much the only class i play is Assault and i can safely say that if i drop a nade that close to me, i will die, if someones that close to me i just change to 3 round burst and fire into the chest, gets 'em every time.

On the note of nades though, they need to have the trails removed, I really hate people knowing where i am by looking at that little smoke trail, the nades also act very strangly at times, like once i fired at a tree some 60ft away from me in the hope of killing the guys round the base of it, and the damn thing bounced off the tree and landed 15ft or so away! wwhhaa?

I guess vBF2's odd buggy grenade realism helps simulate the real life unpredictability of the things. Sometimes you get duds, sometimes they arm early, though generally it all works.

Guess you don't know how the real things work. Yes, they're set to explode on contact, but they take a few seconds to army once fired from the tube, mainly to prevent "accidents" happening. You fire, it spins and it arms in midair. If the grenade hits a surface too early, before it's armed, it won't explode on contact. In real life, sometimes an early grenade will not explode at all, sometimes it will but either way in BF2 early grenades will always bounce and always explode on their next contact. It's realistic and tactical, but I never use them in close ranges anyway. I've just about memorised the angles I have to use to pull off long range kills with them and I love use them as mini mortars. The satisfaction of seeing your shot hit over 100m away is great. :D

Yeah, but sadly a lot of guys are put off by the fact that when you fire right after army the weapon it flies off anywhere. I can just imagine the devastation if a squad or two of assaultmen were to work together with their grenades. 6 of those nades would be enough to destroy an armoured vehicle, but imagine getting the whole team of 32 to fire on one point, they could take out a tank!

I guess dreaming stuff like that is what DICE did, then they realised, it's never going to happen. *sigh*
