Random Map Time Generator
Hello ladies and gents ..
The other day a friend of mine and i were watching a community match video on youtube and you guys had west falujah and the time was i think around dawn , the atmosphere was amazing , i mean it looked like more fun and the soldiers looked more focused on the surroundings because it was darker .. so this idea came across my mind , i think its really good and creative and should make the gameplay alot better !
Now if there is a way to auto generate a time on a map when the map is being loaded , let me break it down . now by default we play maps in broad daylight , if you guys can generate a code or something that can change the time from daylight to night time before the new round starts well that would be awesome ...
let me know what you guys think ..
thanks

A lot of effort goes into turning a map dark. There's more than just changing a couple numbers.
The best you could do is create a number of versions for each map. And select one at random. But that would increase the size of PR dramatically.

Would be pretty cool but its as hard as hell, youd have to make a sperate map for each different time

Re: Random Map Time Generator
There would have to be dusk, day, dawn and night versions, so 4 different maps, each with its own 4 layouts...too much work
Few maps could have their clones in diffrent TOD tho.

Re: Random Map Time Generator
I am one of those people who have converted (or at least done my best) to convert maps to a differnet time of day or night.
What you ask cannot be done particularly easily.
You'd have to treat each 'time' as a whole new map.
So you 'could' do it. But the amount of effort might not be worth it, especially for the DEVs when there are other projects to be done. Community members who have completed tuts such as (but not limited to) https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f189-m ... audit.html can do it themselves. Freeing the DEVs to do the major gameplay stuff.
so, its doable...but might not be worth it. Though it would be an excuse for gameplay changes in various ways.
Though it gets VERY complicated when you stray towards the 'night time' part of the spectrum

That's basically it. You need different versions of the maps. But to change the daytime of the map requires an immense amount of mapwork. You can't just change the time of the map with a code.badmojo420 wrote:A lot of effort goes into turning a map dark. There's more than just changing a couple numbers.

Re: Random Map Time Generator
YAAAY Rudd, that's just what I was thinking.
like kasahan_desert_night or kashan_desert_dawn it can be done.
But I believe that adding different maps for different times would actually make a larger download for everyone. Fix that with another (Optional) download. However, I dont think it would be fair to those of us with bandwidth caps (i.e. Comcast, TimeWarner, any where else in the world). I believe that having one map that focuses on that time setting would be just dandy.
Until we switch over to FarCry 2 for an engine I think were stuck with one map with one time.
I still agree that we should have different times though.

Re: Random Map Time Generator
I only think that the different 'time' maps should be made if it is in accordance with the mapper's ideas.
For example, Barracuda at dawn or dusk as it is would probably be not nearly as 'picturesque' as a night version of it, no matter how cool LAZORS AND NIGHTVISION may be.
For maps that are kind of 'mid-day' are more applicable to become dawn/dusk maps, like how Fallujah was done in the audit for the community match, or like the Desert Rats audit of Kashan (even though it was more than lighting changed), things like that.

I was just talking about the engine's built in day/night feature.
Dude, that was from another post, and I was being slightly facetious if not completely. But the inner vanilla lover in me would really like to see that.Celestial1 wrote:LAZORS AND NIGHTVISION

Too much realism, the better armies would have night vision goggles, as long as their batteries hold up, so you basically fight in black and green and the insurgents would either ruin their eyes or max out their gamma getting an advantage over players who dont set their monitor to unrealistic settings to get an edge.

Re: Random Map Time Generator
Wasn't referring to your post specifically, but to the overall 'want' for nightmaps, since a lot of it is based on the thought that the night maps mean that everyone can be sneaky, and tracers will light up the sky blah blah blah.acemantura wrote:Dude, that was from another post, and I was being slightly facetious if not completely. Just saying that something like Barracuda's picturesque-ness would be completely washed out if it were turned to a night map. So, again, the point is that only maps that kind of 'have approval' should be done that way, because I would hate to see Barracuda as a night map, whereas I wouldn't mind seeing Kashan as one.
