PR2 DEVs and CONs are using a indie engine which they can Mod for themselves.

As for the original question, I don't know, I guess that it depends on how much of a community is left a 1.0.

Read the sticky pages for the mod team. They are in the beginning stages of PR2 stand-alone game. It will be a year or more before we see much from it though. It just takes a long time.

I'm sure they will re-direct 99% of the resources to PR2 when it gets under full swing. I wouldn't think to much more would happen to PR after 1.0 other than bug fixes.

This is just speculation on my behalf but that’s what I think.

Oh boy...

I imagine there will be a final release of PR for BF2. As I have understood it, it has always been planned to have PR finished and in it's final build in version 1.0. Just like there was a final official version for Desert Combat for BF1942 I am sure PR will have an official last version. Then again, a few fans and past devs developed a DC mod after the dev team had officially called it quits. It may or may not happen with PR. But, with the popularity of PR, it wouldn't be a stretch to think it might happen. These guys want to be paid for their hard work, so it is a natural progression to develop their own PR2.

A mod only "dies" when enough of the player base moves on to something else. There are always the hardcore few who will still play no matter what. Heck, people still play PC game demos and the original Doom and Wolfenstein. PR could last many many years as long as there is enough people still willing to play it.

A thread like this is like looking into a crystal ball and I am sure it will be locked eventually, as there is no point in speculating.

Thats pretty cool. Hope its a good engine. I still haven't gotten over the BF2 hit detection.

Such a piss off when you shoot a guy in the face 3 times with a sniper and it isn't till the forth shot it actually takes.

All the info about PR2 is here. They are not using the engine they won.

As for PR1 it will still be around after 1.0 but will probably not have as much new content and will mostly be bug fixes.

Realistically speaking, I think PR1 will be the main focus until at least the later half of 2010, that gives a solid year, and even then, there is many community factions and maps under development that can extend the life of the mod greatly or indefinitely....

PR1 is not going anywhere anytime soon, and if I'd have to guess I'd say people will still be playing PR1 5 years down the road, without question.

I find the killer of most shooting games is the lack of new maps, and new weapons/vehicles. Something the community itself can provide for years to come. The dev team has created a great core, so the mod itself will only die if the community stops creating content and people get bored and play something else. It's another reason i love PR, it's community driven.

Yep, i think PR is here to last for good, there is nothing like PR =) PR breaks atleast 2 game developers golden rules:
1. realism is not succesfull
2. never ever make a game that is too different from others.

I dont think there is going to be much competition unless we grow so large that we prove to the money ppl that first person shooter game's multiplayer doesnt need to be a quake clone in order to be succesfull =P

Thats just what i personally think =)

Hardly modding it, building it from scratch using the C4 engine :p

As has been said, PR2 will offer new oppotunities etc, but PR1 is still going to be worked on by guys that are doing it now, yes not everyone, but some will still stay around.

1.0 is just a number... I vote for skipping 1.0 and going to 1.1 just because we can :p .

I hope the devs work on a tool for modding, so the community can join in and develope the game with them... Would that be ok?

Id love to do some more mapping! And add the Norwegian Forces into PR2 :D
