Fireteams

Post by arjan »

Tarantula made a post, wich took my attention;
Tarantula wrote:is it possible to reduce the number of people in a squad to 4 man fireteams ?

2 questions for people (with knowledge of the bf2 engine) after youre done reading this thread
Question 1; is it possible?
Question 2; is it allowed?

_______________________

Reason i made this thread is becouse;

Most military forces work with fireteams these days.
(especially US Army/USMC)

And most engagements in PR are squad vs squad firefight right.
(could be seen as Fireteam vs Fireteam right?)

Also squads will most likely run around with more realistic loadouts, example;

Fireteam;
-Officer
-Auto Rifleman
-Medic
-Random kit

Reason why they probally will is becouse Officer,Auto Rifleman and Medic is a must in a squad, while the random kit can be anything like; Grenadier, Marksman, LAT, HAT, RAA etc.

And it makes the squadleader have a better overview over his squad, to make decisions quiker and such to operate quiker and faster
(guess thats why they made this system in real life too for this reason)

It could be good for armour squads;
2 tanks or APC's/IFV's per squad means easier comms for their unit, and gives someone else the chance to drives tanks too, instead of 1 whole squad taking up all the tanks.
And most of the time theirs only 2 to 4 apc's on smaller maps and 8 tanks or APC's on larger maps

Also it could be good for air squads;
Reason is, you dont need 6 guys for a Transport or CAS for example;
Muttrah doesnt hold 6 choppers, so 4 guys in a transport squad would be maximum, so you wouldnt have a squad full of transport pilots, but only the 4 required pilots.
Or for the CAS, 2 pilots to give CAS and 2 spotters would be enough.

Good for commander and atmosphere;
And the commander could get more troops to command, giving him more options, and having the feeling hes commanding a much larger team than 32 people. (wich the infantry on the ground will have the feeling too of operating with much more squads)

Overall i think this whole system could make the battlefield more organized and their could be more troops send over the map, and working together with a squad would (maybe) occur even more becouse their more troops spread around or able to spread around.

Squad Size is hard coded to 6 I'm afraid.

If you do want 4 Man fire teams, then creating two Squads of four, locking them and using mumble (or TS or Vent, but mumble is best) to co-ordinate is your best bet.

Sorry Behr ;)

I meant it can be 6, and only 6 ;)

If you want 2 fire teams use a Third party VoiP and lock the squad at 4 :)

Hehe you seem to be missing the point of 'hardcoded'. It means "can't be changed", rather than "can't be changed to the way you want it to" :)

So yeah, not possible to increase or decrease the squad size, from what I've read here. If you want 4 man squads (and your server permits it), just lock the squad after 4 people join? :)

* 3 ppl join. If 4 ppl joined then it'd be a 5 man squad :D

Sorry for being pedantic but.... well i have no excuse :P

If you want to limit the number in a squad simply lock the squad and kick the extras if necessary. with 32 on a team and 9 squads available you can have a mix of 5x3 man squads (15) and 4x4 man squads (16) plus the commander.

I do understand what hardcoded means, and as proven before what people called not able to do CA mod managed to do some of those stuff.. second thing what hardcoded means that it just hard to do, and yeah sometimes not possible.

I do understand adding ''more'' is not possible but ''less'' should be possible right?

Also, its just a lame excuse to say you yourself can kick people out of youre squad.
Im talking about changing things for a ''whole'' team not 1 squad

Hardcoded means Code that cannot be changed.

Less is not possible! It's Hardcoded to a squad limit of 6. So the only thing you can do is lock your squad at 4,there is no way you can force it on the team.

It may be possible (with some extremely clever coding) to make it so that when a squad reaches 4 the squad automatically locks, and cannot be unlocked.

Behr just give up lol. When people say it's hardcoded it means that it cannot be changed at all. Squad sizes are hardcoded so they cannot be increased or decreased 6 is the number that will always be on the screen and it doesnt look like that can be changed. If this is definitely the case then maybe lock this as it's a bit pointless.

Take the hint....Also, when we say "hardcoded" it can also mean that yes, we know how to fix it but by following EA's EULA we are not allowed to change it. Some mods disregard this and can face legal action. Closed
