Lagfest 2009

Post by Irish Freedom »

Every time I play PR I get lag, and I really want to figure out what's causing my lag, let alone fix the problem. I have a HP Pavilion dv2000 PC that runs on Windows Vista Home Premium. Here are my specifications:

Processor: AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 1.80 GHz
System Memory (RAM): 1982 MB
Graphics Memory: 66 MB
System Type: 32-bit Operating System
Graphics Card: Nvidia Geforce 6150---Current Resolution: 1200 x 800
Refresh Rate: 60 Hz

I have the exact same problem in windows 7, every servers ping in the server list is in the 700's as well !!!

My connection is more than good enough and i get no lag in any other games, but PR is unplayable, every server lags horrifically ! its impossible to walk, or do anything, you just jerk and lag all over the screen the second you spawn.

Ah, would this be you, Conor? :)

Yeah, I remember you mentioning this problem several times recently.

My suggestion would be to lower your grapshics settings somewhat, that can sometimes fix lag that you may get on city/forest maps. (worked for me when I had this problem.)

Also, I would recommend playing on servers that are based more locally (ie. not European ones) as your ping will usually be lower since it is closer geographically to the server location.

I myself had a sort of "Lagfest: 2008" a while back, but now that I play on American servers it doesn't seem to be as much of a problem.
Otherwise, it's pretty tempremental for me. I'll have a ping of 750 one day, then 38 the next.
Strange....
Anyway, good luck with fixing it! Hope to play with you sometime soon.

Sorry, but you can´t expect to be able to play PR with a computer like that.
PR demands alot more of your hardware than VanillaBF2 so you just might have to upgrade your system,
specially your graphicscard.

I started playing with AMD Athlon4000+ 2.1Ghz, 2GB RAM and a 9800GTX 512MB and got freezups on maps like Ramiel and Qinling.

Well, I have pretty much exactly the same computer as he does, and everything works just fine for me.
Odd... :-?

Actually, I think he (Mj Pain) might be right. Your computer is actually better than mine, with a higher resolution (a bigger screen) and you have a better processor (intel, right?) I'm not sure if we have the same graphics card, however. Is yours also the Geforce 6150? Because I thought yours was higher. All matters aside, I think it's about time I get a new graphics card. My question is, even with a new graphics card, will all my lag be gone?

Btw, I'm surprised you found my obscure post, Chris! Call me so we can play pr; I have great internet up here.

A great resource to help you get the most out of your PC
is tweakguides

Be sure to read the system guides as well.
Good luck
