Mumble 0.5 Wont Start - FIXED !

Post by Fatal-M »

Hey guys ..

Ive been running on Windows 7 64-bit for about a week now and im loving it , its way better than Vista in so many ways ! anyways , i installed PR Mumble 0.5 on my laptop , but whenever i try to run it nothing opens , even when i open the task manager and check the process's nothing is there related to mumble , i installed mumble 1.1.8 and it works with Windows 7 ..

I tried running the software as an admin , and with the XP and Vista compatibility and still nothing !

i managed to get the crash report for Mumble and this seems to be the problem :

And a brief history before and after problem started.
Please describe when your CTD or problem hits and
what you have already tried.

What happens when your go into the PR folder
Path:C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr
and click on PR.exe to start it?

Do you have DEP (data execution prevention) set for all programs or just essential ?
Path: settings\control panel\system\advanced system settings\system protection(tab)

If you have it set to all and you don't have a exception for PR.exe it will stop the program from running.
Note you should have gotten a pop up window telling you the program was blocked tho.
All I can think of.
Please provide more to go on.
ofc you should do that with the mumble executable and not pr.exe ;)

not sure if the DEP thing applies to windows 7 too but you should check

did u get pr mumble from here? ... http://www.realitymod.com/mumble

yer, this is ultimate 64 too, that's what the beta is, but its juts a different build is all.

You say that vanilla mumble works, but Pr v5 doesnt, are they both installed at the same time, how many times have you re downloaded the PR mumble files?

Oh ok ..

Vanilla Mumble works fine , i even tried joining the official PR channel but i got rejected for not having the PR Mumble client files , anyhow the vanilla one works fine . but the PR Mumble dosnt even open or run , i tried running in vista and xp compatibility and still nothing , i double click the screen flashes (u can barely notice that and that dosnt always happen) and nothing happens ..

i had them both installed together and still nothing , i unistalled them both and installed PR Mumble by itself and tried it and still nothing

Not sure if its relevant , but check if you have QoS or QWave running (Microsofts Quality of Service thing for audio). It has caused problems with people on XP and Vista. As to why Vanilla mumble works and the PR one doesn't I have no explanation for. There is nothing changed that would do that (all the audio stuff and basic engine stuff is the same as vanilla). And its not something I have heard of anyone else having yet. Strange.

Only think I can think of is it being a 64bit / 32bit thing .... as I compiled it on a 32bit system. But then everyone on 64bit would have a problem ....

i am pretty sure windows 64 bit is backwards compatible to 32 bit - as i got winxp64 and have no problem running 32bit apps (bf2 is a 32 bit app afaik)

maybe some rights management problem
on vista i have a file that has different content depending on whether i run the editor with admin rights or not :?
so maybe try manually placing the files into the folder forcing windows to request admin rights for copying into "program files"

I already know all that , im running everything 32-bit on my 64-bit OS with no problems except PR Mumble and Firefox 3.5 ..

I already tried editing the application's security permissions to give it full access with special access permission and still nothing lol , this problem is driving me crazy ! :tired:
