A huey is a transport... An attack huey is a transport... In PR an attack huey is a cobra with only hydras...
I would like to see transport seats for 6 (7 including copilot seat) soldiers in the attack huey. There is no reason whatsoever to only have 2 seats in it. The hydras are attached to the sides and do NOT take up the space inside the cabine.
In a chopper insertion into enemy active territory like eg. operation barracuda, the troops would most likely be carried with armed chopper transports to suppress the VERY HOT landing zone. Or escorted by cobras.
I suggest to have half the hueys armed with hydras or gatling/50.cals on the sides or add Black Hawks instead. This would make the defenders have to dig in properly and with the fixed huey "health" the choppers would be able to be shot down if defence is done right.
This way attacks can be done in bigger groups landing on the objectives at the same time as fire support is given. Would add a more action/massive "feeling" (and reality?) to the game.
What do you think?

Hmmm I think CA adds one minigun to the side of the Huey. However making all the transport hueys into attack helicopters may distract them from their real purpose, which is to transport and supply inf. I support miniguns but not pilot controlled weapons.Viper.Sw wrote:A huey is a transport... An attack huey is a transport... In PR an attack huey is a cobra with only hydras...

Also, suggested before:Noetheinner wrote:Mr. Eddie Baker directed me to this thread, as I was a huey crewchief for 4 years in the Marines. The UH-1N is VERY weight limited.
Now, we did transport a recon squad while fully loaded with guns and pods once. Of course, that was at night in the desert (cool weather+low altitude= more power), with a 1/2 bag of gas and doing almost a sliding takeoff. There was no room for extra supplies for them, only what they carried on their backs.
Now in Barracuda, the game is set in midday, probably hot as heck, and humid as well. NOT the best for flying fully loaded with troops, 2 pods and extra supplies.
Even a huey with just the rocket pods would not be able to carry a full squad.
As for what I hope the attack huey could be, it would have 2 door gunners shooting either a .50 or a M249 with about 500 rounds, as well as the current rocket pods. A copilot could mark out targets as a SL would for the crewchiefs to light up.

I know that in Vietnam they had the LZ cleared by attack Huey's and the attack Hueys covered them. I don't think they would send a squad in on a Huey with Hydras on it.

I agree that transport aircraft should not have pilot-controlled weapons, but I think there should be doorguns, because hauling M249 guys around gets tiresome. A good choice for the doorgun would probably be the M240D or M60D. That would make my day as a pilot so much easier.

The only reason they dont do that is balance and because its meant for a certian role.
Guys theres Real life. Then theres PR. Real life doesnt have to be balanced but PR does. Really if your going into a LZ that requires alot of shooting from the heli then your in a bad area. If its hot get the hell out. Find a better spot.

Incorrect. See my earlier post.Ccharge wrote:The only reason they dont do that is balance and because its meant for a certian role.
Also, this has been suggested before, as have door guns for the Huey; since there does not seem to be a MOD on duty, I am locking the thread.
