Bad mumble experience

Post by RedSparrow »

I have to say, this is possibly my first bad experience I've got from mumble.

For a start, there was someone (not naming any names today) using force centre, or they weren't in the game, a lot. This involved the usual bad jokes, rude jokes, and then playing music. This disrupted my game, and for a few minutes I considered switching server whilst asking them to stop.

Then near the end of the round there was harassment towards me. Sure, it was funny the first time this guy told me that his friend really liked me. But constantly? And when I'm trying to play? Next map was mostly full of said persons following me about and generally being an arse.

I suppose I could have just changed server, but I didn't really want to abandon the pubbies that I was getting along with as they had more or less stuck with me for three rounds. I did try ignoring them, but it was very hard with the constant abuse and unfortunately I broke before they got bored. Thankfully I was on with Pedz at the beginning.

End of rant.

I've never really looked to be honest, but is there a way to mute other people on mumble from the client side? An admin did mute one of them when Pedz asked, but they just rejoined (presumably under a different name).

Rest assured this won't stop me from playing PR just yet. ;)

I get this too ;)
The people are the number one reason I don't use mumble.
Right click, 'Local Mute'. The admins shouldn't need to be asked to sort players like this out. It isn't hillarious.

Hey Red! It's the guy from your last night's Trans. squad aka "Everybody get off the carrier! IM LANDING"

Well anyways, it's true there are some idiots on mumble, but as you probably already know there is always a person like that in a community.

About the force center, what I do when people force center a bit too much (more than a mumble check or asking whether admins are on) you just tell them to *please* shut up if their not ingame, and if they need help with setting up mumble, then tell them to join a waiting / admins channel.

As to the harassment, no need to be polite with those guys... just clearly tell him to f*** off and stop bothering you, if your not that type of person then threaten them with adding them to the ban list because you know some admin... you get the point. Ultimately, write a post in the forums reporting his name without shame.

And yea, the easiest way would be to mute him !

I haven´t tried this but you can mute single people I think in mumble no? In any case, mute and ignore is usually the best solution, though harder if you are affected by the 1.5 alt + tab issue.

Question, is there any way to mute individuals based on IP/MAC?
If not - where would be a good place to suggest that service for mumble?

(Ofcourse, disallowing the normal mumble users to see the above)

Most of the times I've joined mumble and/or mumble-required servers it has been (sorry but it's true.... and the people I generally talk to in-game report the same) a group of juveniles screaming, singing, streaming music etc. Which frankly have made me not even log on to mumble, and avoid those servers. Thus far, very sadly, I find individual squad chatter much more professional.

The above would solve that as no matter how many times the individual(s) log on and off with various different names to annoy, it'd be their address that was muted.

Just some thoughts (from someone fed up with "that kind" of people).

(If there is infact a problem with people spoofing IP addresses, MAC addresses would solve a fair amount of it)

Apparently it breaks the widescreen FOV change? Which I kind of like. Its not a big problem to me, you can alt tab if you press ESC and go to the options menu I think, which is ok for a workaround.

Though what mumble should have if it doesn´t already is the ability to mute only force centre talking, and still hear proximity talking.

All of you please bear in mind that we (the PR team) are providing you (the PR Community) with this server.

You are all expected to behave with consideration for others.

Use of the Mumble server is a privilege, not a right, and we will ban from the server any person who abuses this.
